in2001,inthemoscowworldtradecenter,whentheformerchairmanoftheinternationalolympiccommittee,samaranchhadsaid:"beijing,china!"asabeijingcitizen,asachinese,ihadagreatjoyformycity,formyhomecountryfromthebottomofmyheart!butaftertheexcitementthatbeijinghadbeensucceedintheracetohosttheolympicgamein2008.istartedtoworryaboutthedustyair,thesandstorm,thepollutedriversandlakes;thestreetswithoutanygreenandwhetherwecouldsuccessfullyhosttheolympicgamesin2008.

fouryearslater,today,wecansee229dayblueskyinoneyear,wecanhardlycatchaglimpseofthesandstorm,groupsofwildduckcomesbacktoshishahailakeinthespring,andallthestreetsaredressedingreen.allthesemakemedeeplybelievethatbeijingwillsurelysucceedin2008!andalltheseachievementsarenotonlytheresultthatmadebythebeijinggovernment,butalsobythe14millionsbeijingcitizens.asoneofthe14millionsnormalcitizens,iamalsoaddingmycontributiontoourgreenolympic!

iusedtohaveahabit,whichistotaketwolongtimeshowerseveryday.itwasabigwasteofwater.oneday,isawapieceofnewsinbeijingdailythataboutthelackofthebeijingwaterresource.itssaideveryyearbeijinguseupabout3.7billionscubicmeterofwater.butmiyunreservoironlycontains0.77billionscubicmeterofwater,andguantingreservoironlycontains0.19billioncubicmeterofwater.thisshowswearereallyshortofwaternow!afterreadingthisnews,istarttochangemyhabit,andonlytakeonequickshowereachday.ihavecalculatedthatifeveryoneeconomizesonecubicmeterofwaterduringtheyaretakingtheshowerinamonth;thebeijingcitizenswilleconomize14millioncubicmeterofwaterinonlyonemonth!in2004,asthebeijingirrigationapartmentreportedthatsince2001beijinghassucceededintheapplicationofhostingtheolympicgamein2008.beijinggovernmenthadstarted26programsinordertoeconomizethewaterresource.after3yearsdoingthis,theseprogramshavesaved0.437billionscubicmeterofwater.itsasbigasafour-sizedhuairoureservoir!andnow,inmydailylife,inmyfamily,wealwaysthinkaboutprotectingtheenvironmentandsavingtheresourcewheneverwedoingwhat.thebatteries,theagednewspapers,theemptyglassbottlesandalltherecyclablegarbage,wewillclassifythemthenputthemindifferenttrashcans;wemakethemostuseofthenaturelightandshutofftheelectricallightconveniently;andwhenweshopping,wewillbringanylonbagwithusinsteadofplasticbags;duringthefeast,idonotsendanycardinordertoprotecttheforestresource;afterwashingtheclothes,wewontdumptheusedwaterbutuseittoflashthetoilet…allinall,weshouldstartfromeverylittlethingaroundustotrulyrealizethe"greenolympic".
