中学英语教学的目的绝对不只是学生在教师的引导下获取课文所传达的信息,也不仅仅是让学生掌握课文所包含的词语、词法、句型和语法等语言知识。语言教学只有跟现实生活结合起来,才能体现出其功能和生命力。因此,在课文教学中,教师应当把课堂作为学生英语实践活动的舞台,把课文内容作为话题,组织学生进行讨论、议论、评价、延伸和借鉴等言语实践活动,从而发挥学生在教学中的主体作用,培养其积极的思维能力和创超能力。

在课文教学中如何将课文内容作为话题,如何激发学生兴趣,如何培养其积极的思维能力和创造能力,如何使其能创造性地解决课文话题所引出的与现实生活密切相关的问题,是摆在我们外语教师面前的一大课题。而教育学中的近体理论中的“近体原则”在中学英语课文教学中的运用。为培养学生的创造意识,发挥其创造潜能和学以致用开辟了一条新路。

“近体原则”是指在教学过程中,应尽可能缩小教与学的差异,在有限的时间内达到满意的教学效果。也就是说,教师应在充分了解学生的心理状况、年龄层次和知识水平的基础上,认真分析教材,并对教材进行创造性地处理,缩小教与学之间的时空差距,以及心理和情感等方面的差异,充分激发学生学习的积极性、主动性和创造性,从而提高教学效果。

“近体原则”可分为时间近体原则、空间近体原则、心理近体原则和活动近体原则。现分别论述如下:

一、时间近体原则

在中学英语教学过程中,师生要不断吸收新知识、新信息和新材料,及时了解国内外重大事件发生的原因和背景。教师可以引导学生将这些重大事件与课堂教学内容有机地结合起来,根据课文内容创设话题,用课本知识去分析当今国内外所发生的重大事件的原因和背景。这种教学方法不仅有利于激发学生的学习兴趣和社会责任感,还有利于提高其分析问题和解决问题的能力。

例如,在教学The Green Hills of Tangsa 一课时。教师可以运用时间近体原则向学生提出这样一个话题:Why did the people along the Changjiang River suffer a lot in the big flood in 1998?然后让学生分成若干小组,用英语进行讨论。学生人人参与,气氛活跃,经过各小组发言,归纳出1998年中国长江发生特大洪水的主要原因,如:气候变化,河床抬高,河道变窄,雨水集中,山坡植被破坏严重,围湖造田,森林遭砍伐等等。接着教师又不失时机地引出另一个话题:What can we do to prevent such a disaster in the future?这一问题的提出在一次引发学生的积极思维,主动探讨,各抒己见。通过小组总结和归纳,师生得出了解决这一问题的答案。

高中英语新教材中有不少涉及社会热点和焦点问题的课文,例如:动物保护问题―――Milu deer return to China;男女平等问题―――The secret is out;关注地球问题――Saving the earth;残疾人问题――Disability;世界粮食问题―Feed the world及自然灾害问题等。教师可以在课堂上留出一定的时间,引出课文以外的话题,创设问题情境,有效激发学生的学习兴趣,引导学生创造性地思维,为课堂教学创设出一种紧张、活跃、和谐和民主的氛围。

二、空间近体原则

受全局性和典型性的局限,教材在选材时不可能选用近期发生在学生所在地区的事例。由于空间距离远,在教学中直观性差,感受性弱,学生的兴奋点不易激发,因此教师应以课文内容为依据,尽量结合当地典型事例,从课文中引出最受学生关注的话题。

例如,在教学Disneyland这一单元时,教师如果在课堂上抓住时机,向学生展示21st century全版刊登的将于2005年完工的香港迪斯尼乐园彩色模型图,并作必要的介绍,就能达到进一步吸引学生注意力的目的。教师可以作如下介绍:

After eight months of negotiations, the Hongkong government struck a deal on Nov.2 for the construction of a US $3.55 billion Disneyland .The park will be the third Disney themy park outside the US after Paris and Tokyo and is aimed at tourists from the Chinese mainland ----which is seen by many Western companies as a huge market for the new millennium .It’s to be built over a five-year period on Hongkong’s Landau Island.

三、心理近体原则

心理近体原则是教师从实际出发,了解某一年龄段学生的身心发展规律,通过创造性的设计,从课文中引出学生最关注和最感兴趣的话题,引起学生的有意注意,引发学生的思维和探索,从而达到最佳的课堂教学效果。

例如,在进行A Farming Pioneer的教学时,学生不禁赞叹我国古代劳动人民的聪明和智慧。此时,教师如能拿出《中华英才》画册,向学生展现一幅朴素农民的彩照,让学生猜一猜他是谁,他有何伟大成就?这一情景一定会把学生的注意力吸引过来,经教师的提示,学生能够猜出那位农民是被世人称为“当代农业之父”的袁隆平。然后教师在提出以下几个问题:

1.Why do we call him the father of modern agriculture?

2.Without his great invention,many people would go hungry,do you think so?And why?

3.What is he doing now?

四、活动近体原则

智力的发展不应仅仅停留在课堂,教师应让学生在自己动手动脑中去发展,在实践中去进行体验和回味。因此,课余时间和节假日,教师应鼓励学生走出校园,把枯燥的语言课变成谈经验和谈体会等的交流会。例如,在教学Travel一课时,教师可在黑板前挂一幅中国地图,让学生联系实际谈谈他们的旅游经历。这时,有的学生描述了他们的旅游经历,其中包括怎样去的,跟谁去的,花了多钱,用了多少时间,买了什么纪念品等内容;有的学生谈了旅途中的见闻和当地的风俗习惯,等等。在教师的启发和诱导下,学生个个争先恐后用自己所学的英语表达自己的经历和感受。这样,不但训练和培养了学生用英语表达的能力,同时也融思想教育于英语教学之中。

由此可见,教师设计的话题只要是学生参与和感知了的,才能使更多的学生参与进来。学生参与的程度越高,课堂教学效果就越好。

We have deployed teams of caregivers consisting of trained MAS staff and volunteers from Mercy Malaysia and Tzu Chi Foundation. These caregivers are stationed at five different locations at Beijing and four different locations in Kuala Lumpur.

As of now, we have 115 family members in Kuala Lumpur and they are taken care of by 72 different caregivers. At least one caregiver is assigned to each family together with a Mandarin translator for the families from China.

The caregivers have been keeping the families updated on the search and rescue efforts as well as provide emotional support.

Equal amount of initial financial assistance are being given out to all families of passengers and crew over and above their basic needs. This amount is extended to families of all crew and passengers in Malaysia as well those from other nations.

We regret and empathise with the families and we will do whatever we can to ease their burden. We are as anxious as the families to know the status of their loved ones.

2.What will you do if you are the manager of Yuanmingyuan Park?
