高考高频核心动词remain

动词remain词义简单，但用法复杂，要完全掌握并不容易，因此一直是高考高频核心动词。此文结合高考真题，精准点拨考点，未雨绸缪，帮助同学们做到不“留”遗憾。

一、 用作系动词

remain用作系动词，指某人或某事物一直保持某种状态，译为“仍然、保持”，后面可接名词、代词、形容词、介词短语、从句和分词作表语，其中以形容词和非谓语动词为考点。分述如下：

1. 后接形容词

【经典例析1】（2002上海春）Although he has taken a lot of medicine, his health

A. proves B. remains

C. maintains D. continues

【解析】选B。此题考查动词词义辨析。maintain和continue是实义动词；prove和remain为系动词，后接形容词，但prove表示“证明为”。

2. 后接非谓语动词

依据动作进展、主被动关系选择对应的非谓语动词形式。

（1） 过去分词

此时的过去分词失去动作意味，仅表状态，转化为形容词，其后可加介词，用来说明与人相关的特征，如：hidden, dressed, lost, seated等。

abroad due to the volcanic ash cloud.

A. sticking B. stuck

C. to be stuck D. to have stuck

【解析】B。此处过去分词stuck表示状态，译作“困在”，失去动作感。

（2） 动词不定式

表示“尚待、有待”，后面接动词不定式的被动式，常见于“It remains to be seen whether...”（尚不确定，说不准）。

【解析】选B。此题考查不定式的语态。remain to be done表“有待于”，惯用被动语态。

二、 用作不及物动词

remain用作实义动词，不及物，不用进行时态，也没有被动语态。有两层含义：

1. 剩下、遗留

由于不及物，无宾语，不用被动语态，表示物的遗留和剩下，注意与survive的区别，survive表示人的幸免遇难、残存。

【解析】选A。此题考查时态兼语态。动词remain表示“遗留”，为不及物动词，不使用被动语态。结合时间状语now考虑，选用一般现在时。

B. 20 dollars to remain

C. remained 20 dollars

D. remaining 20 dollars

【解析】选D。这位夫人说她将用剩下的20美元为女儿买一个礼物。单个remaining只能作前置定语，表示剩余的。

2. 停留、逗留

在多数情况下可和stay相互替换，但特指在他人走后留下时只能使用remain，强调住在某处时用stay。
