Goodmorning.Thisweek,Americareceivedastarkreminderthatterroristsarestillplottingattackstokillourpeople.BegiingonWednesdaynight,authoritiesinGreatBritainarrestedmorethan20individualswhowebelievewereplottingtodetonateliquidexplosivesaboardflightsfromtheUnitedKingdomtotheUnitedStates.Iftheseterroristshadsucceeded,theycouldhavecauseddeathonamaivescale.Theplotaearstohavebeencarefullyplaedandwell-advanced.Theyplaedtobringthecomponentsoftheirexplosivesonboardintheircarry-onluggage,disguisedasbottleddrinksandelectronicdevices.

Webelievethatthisweek’sarrestshavesignificantlydisruptedthethreat.Yetwecaotbesurethatthethreathasbeeneliminated.Soasaprecaution,onThursday,thefederalgovernmenttookseveralstetoincreasesecurityatourairportsandaboardourplanes.

Thisplotisfurtherevidencethattheterroristswefacearesophisticated,andcotantlychangingtheirtactics.OnSeptemberthe11th,20__,theyusedboxcutterstohijackairplanesandkillthousandsofiocentpeople.Thistime,webelievetheyplaedtouseliquidexplosivestoblowupplanesinmid-air.Inreoe,we’veadjustedoursecurityprecautiobytemporarilybaingmostliquidsascarry-onitemsonplanes.Iknowmanyofyouwillbetravelingduringthisbusysummervacationseason,andIaskforyourpatience,cooperation,andvigilanceinthecomingdays.Theinconveniencesyouwillfaceareforyourprotection,andtheywillgiveustimetoadjustourscreeningprocedurestomeetthecurrentthreat.

I’mgratefulfortheoutstandingworkofintelligenceandlawenforcementofficersintheUnitedKingdomandinourcountry.Thisweek’sarrestsweretheculminationofhardwork,cooperation,andinformation-sharingacrodifferentagenciesanddifferentgovernments.We’redealingwithanewenemythatusesnewmeaofattackandnewmethodstocommunicate.Thisweek’seventsdemotratethevitalimportanceofeuringthatourintelligenceandlawenforcementpersoelhaveallthetoolstheyneedtotrackdowntheterrorists,andpreventattacksonourcountry.

Becauseofthemeasureswe’vetakentoprotecttheAmericanpeople,ourNationissaferthanitwaspriortoSeptemberthe11th.Still,wemustnevermakethemistakeofthinkingthedangerofterrorismhaspaed.Thisweek’sexperienceremindsusofahardfact:Theterroristshavetosucceedonlyoncetoachievetheirgoalofmamurder,whilewehavetosucceedeverytimetostopthem.Unfortunately,somehavesuggestedrecentlythattheterroristthreatisbeingusedforpartisanpoliticaladvantage.Wecanhavelegitimatedisagreementsaboutthebestwaytofighttheterrorists,yetthereshouldbenodisagreementaboutthedangersweface.

Americaisfightingatoughwaragaitanenemywhoseruthleeisclearforalltosee.Theterroristsattempttobringdownairplanesfullofiocentmen,women,andchildren.TheykillciviliaandAmericanservicemeninIraqandAfghanistan,andtheydeliberatelyhidebehindciviliainLebanon.Theyareseekingtoreadtheirtotalitarianideology.They’reseekingtotakeovercountrieslikeAfghanistanandIraqsotheycanestablishsafehavefromwhichtoattackfreenatio.ThesekillersneedtoknowthatAmerica,GreatBritain,andouralliesaredetermi文秘站版权所有nedtodefendourselvesandadvancethecauseofliberty.Withpatience,courage,anduntiringresolve,wewilldefendourfreedom,andwewillwinthewar
