Sometime this year, the world will cross a threshold: There will be more mobile device connections than there are humans.

That doesnt mean every soul on the planet will have a cell phone. But data released Monday by GSMA, an association of cell operators whose Mobile World Congress just opened for a fourday run in Barcelona, shows the total number of mobile connections increasing to 7.4 billion this year, up from 6.8 billion in 2012. The world population sits at about 7.1 billion, and is growing far more slowly.

Part of the rise in mobile connections results from customers having more than one at a time. The average user of mobile services―there were 3.2 billion worldwide last year―had at least two connections, according to Mondays report by GSMA.

For some customers, using more than one mobile service is a way to chase better prices as carriers compete. Elsewhere, the rise in connections reflects the exploding popularity of different types of wireless devices. Many people have both a cell phone and a tablet or ereader―each with its own wireless connection―adding to the global total.

The Mobile World Congress, an annual event expected to draw 70,000 people to Barcelona, this seaside Spanish city, is largely devoted to making even more money out of one of the worlds great growth industries―one that has managed to develop greatly and strongly even as the global economy has struggled in recent years.

That means new devices, new apps, new ways to reach the remotest corner of every potential market. Though the events nearly 1,500 exhibitors run all the range of the mobile business world, much attention is being devoted to the development of systems that let customers make payments from their cell phones.

This has been an industry focus for years, but progress has moved slowly so far. Whoever solves the riddle―finding a way to get people to easily and elegantly use their mobile devices as mobile wallets―stands to win billions of customers.

56.According to the context, which has the meaning closest to the underlined word threshold?

A. thread B. bridge C. household D. edge

57.The total number of mobile connections in 2013 has increased by about , compared with that in 2012.

A. 109% B. 8.82% C. 130% D. 113%

58.One of the reasons why mobile connections have been increasing so fast is that .

A. the world population is growing far more slowly

B. new mobile services have reached the remotest corner

C. all customers use more than mobile connections at a time

D. many popular wireless devices need extra mobile connections

59.Which is NOT TRUE about paying through mobile phones?

A. It is a new and promising technology that has developed for years.

B. You cant use your cell phone to pay until someone solves a riddle about wallets.

C. It is not very convenient for customers to use mobile phones to pay their bills now.

D. The new way of using cell phones can benefit both the mobile business and customers.

60.Which is the best title for the passage?

A. Mobile Device Connections Growing Quickly

B. Wireless Devices Are Increasingly Popular

C. The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

D. Mobile Wallets Is Coming From Barcelona

The practice of magic includes special words, actions, and objects. Most magic involves a person called a magician, who claims to have supernatural powers.

Magic words. To work most magic, the magician sings or speaks special words in a certain order. These words are called incantations or spells. Some spells form prayers to demons(魔鬼), spirits, or other supernatural forces. Many societies believe the magic will not work unless the magician recites the spells perfectly. Other magic words have no meaning, though they supposedly possess power when spoken by a magician.

Magic actions accompany the words spoken in performing much magic. Many of these movements act out the desired effect of the magic. For example, a magician trying to make rain fall may sprinkle(洒) water on the ground. The magicians combined words and actions form a ceremony.

Magic objects include certain plants, stones, and other things with supposed supernatural powers. Any such object may be called a fetish(物神). But this term often refers to an object―for example, a carving or a dried snake―honored by a tribe for its magic powers. Many tribes believe fetishes have magic power because spirits live in these objects.

Many people carry magic objects called amulets(护身符) to protect themselves from harm. Many amulets are stones or rings engraved(雕刻) with magic symbols.

The magician. In some societies, nearly everyone knows how to work some magic. In other societies, only experts practice magic. Magicians may be called medicine men, medicine women, shamans, sorcerers, or witch doctors. In many societies, magicians must inherit their powers. In others, any person may become a magician by studying the magical arts.

Many societies believe magicians must observe certain rules and taboos (forbidden actions) for their spells to work. For example, they may be required not to eat various foods or to avoid sexual activity for a certain period before the ceremony.

61.What do magic words mean to people in some society?

A. They have the power to kill devils.

B. They have power if magician recites the right spells.

D. They can be used whenever they want.

62.People believe magic actions will have an effect if they are accompanied by.

A. the spells

B. magic objects

C. stones or rings engraved with magic symbols

A. Because it is often a ring which is worth a lot of money.

B. Because it is carved with magic symbols.

C. Because people think spirits live in it.

D. Because it can help them with many things.

64.According to the passage what kind of person can become a magician?

A. Only those studying the magical arts.

B. Only those inheriting their powers.

C. Only men.

D. Almost all the people in some societies.

65.Whats the best title of the passage?

A. How Magic Works

B. The Power of Magic

C. How to Practice Magic

D. The Choice of Magicians

Heartbreak Can Take A Physical Toll

Hope Rising (yes, her real name) says that the day she watched her husband pull out of their driveway for the last time, she collapsed, clutching her stomach in pain.

That was, she says, in March 2012, a day before the couples seventh wedding anniversary. Rising says she begged him not to go, and after he left, she couldnt get out of bed for days, though she rarely slept.

“Usually Id just lie in bed and stare at the wall or the ceiling,” Rising, 47, said. “I was angry that he left, and then Id think about what I could have done differently for him not to leave.”

Risings symptoms were dramatic, but as many people end up learning, heartbreak often causes physical symptoms, said Simon Rego, director of psychology training at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. The human body has a builtin defense mechanism intended to respond to sudden jolts of stress “to keep us alive,” said Rego.

Adrenaline(肾上腺素) surges through the body. Blood pressure rises, and breathing speeds up. Muscles contract, and the digestive system slows.

Rising says she didnt eat for days on end, and when she did, she often vomited 15 minutes later.

Risings heart raced for weeks after her husband left, she said, and she then experienced irregular bleeding.

Instead of isolating oneself, Rego said, socializing and seeking support from family, friends and counselors is usually the fastest way to heal.

Return to your normal routine and participate in activities you enjoy, he said.

Rising said therapy(治疗) helped her gain perspective on what had happened in her marriage.

Rising said it took about six months to take her life back.

She moved. And she began to focus on her health, exercising regularly and joining a meetup group for people who were recently divorced, and now she finds fulfillment in supporting other men and women going through similar loss.

“I gave up so many things to be with this person,” said Rising. “Counseling helped me realize just how wrong we were for each other. Now Im having a great time rediscovering all the things I like to do.”

And Rising can confirm that. Her current state of mind? Hope rising.

66.What does the title mean?

A. If you suffer a heartbreak, you can pay the fee physically.

B. The pain of heartbreak can lead to physical illness.

C. Heartbreak can take physical exercise.

D. You will suffer a lot while taking a physical activity with a heartbreak.

67.Which of the following is TRUE about Hoping Rising?

A. She suffered a severe mental disease.

B. She celebrated her seventh wedding anniversary with her husband.

C. She was upset at first for she got divorced.

D. She could never recover from the pain she suffered.

68.How many physical symptoms are listed in the passage?

A.1 B.6 C.7 D.5

69.According to Simon Rego, we can deal with heartbreak by doing the following EXCEPT .

A. Isolating ourselves B. Counseling

C. Seeking support D. Socializing

70.We can learn from the passage that Hoping Rising is a women.

A. Selfabandoned B. Positive

C. Negative D. Worrying

In the more and more competitive service industry, it is no longer enough to promise customer satisfaction. Today, customer “delight” is what companies are trying to achieve in order to keep and increase market share.

It is accepted in the marketing industry, and confirmed by a number of researches, that customers receiving good service will promote business by telling up to 12 other people; those treated badly will tell their tales of woe to up to 20 people, and 80 percent of the people who feel their complaints are handled fairly will stay loyal.

New challenges for customer care have come when people can obtain goods and services through telephone call centers and the Internet. For example, many companies now have to invest a lot of money in information technology and staff training in order to cope with the “phone rage”―caused by delays in answering calls, being cut off in midconversation or left waiting for long periods.

“Many people do not like talking to machines,” says Dr. Storey Senior Lecturer in Marketing at City University Business School. “Banks, for example, encourage staff at call centers to use customer data to establish instant and good relationship with them. The aim is to make the customer feel they know you and that you can trust―the sort of comfortable feelings people have during facetoface chats with their local branch manager.”

Recommended ways of creating customer delight include: underpromising and overdelivering (saying that a repair will be carried out within five hours, but getting it done within two); replacing a faulty product immediately; throwing in a gift voucher(购物礼卷) as an unexpected “thank you” to regular customers; and always returning calls, even when they are complaints.

Aiming for customer delight is all very well, but if services do not reach the high level promised, disappointment or worse will be the result. This can be eased by offering an apology and an explanation of why the service did not meet usual standards with empathy (for example, “I know how you must feel”), and possible solutions (replacement, compensation or whatever fairness suggests best meets the case).

Airlines face some of the toughest challenges over customer care. Fierce competition has convinced them that delighting passengers is an important marketing tool, while there is great potential for customer anger over delays caused by weather, unclaimed luggage and technical problems.

For British Airways staff, a winning telephone style is considered vital in handling the large volume of calls about bookings and flight times. They are trained to answer quickly, with their name, job title and a “we are here to help” attitude. The company has invested heavily in information technology to make sure that information is available instantly on screen.

British Airways also says its customer care policies are applied within the company and staff are taught to regard each other as customers requiring the highest standards of service.

Customer care is obviously here to stay and it would be a foolish company that used slogans such as “we do as we please”. On the other hand, the more customers are promised, the greater the risk of disappointment.

71.We can learn from Paragraph 2 that .

A. complaining customers are hard to satisfy

B. unsatisfied customers receive better service

C. Satisfied customers catch more attention

D. welltreated customers promote business

72.The writer mentions “phone rage”(Paragraph 3) to show that .

A. customers often use phones to express their anger

B. people still prefer to buy goods online

C. customer care becomes more demanding

D. customers rely on their phones to obtain services

73.What does the writer recommend to create delight?

A. Calling customers regularly.

B. Giving a “thank you” note.

C. Delivering a quicker service.

D. Promising more gifts.

74.If a manager should show his empathy (Paragraph 6), what would he probably say?

A. “I know how upset you must be.”

B. “I appreciate your understanding.”

C. “Im sorry for the delay.”

D. “I know its our fault.”

75.Customer delight is important for airlines because .

A. their telephone style remains unchanged

B. they are more likely to meet with complaints

C. the services cost them a lot of money

D. the policies can be applied to their staff

Good afternoon everyone!

Im so glad today to be standing here to make this speech. My topic is “Time is a bird forever on the wing”. As I put it, time is valuable and it never stops. Time and tide wait for no man and therefore we should make wise use of it rather than waste it.

One year ago, I made acquaintances with some problem students and fell into bad habits. I didnt want to go on with school any longer and started to play truant. I wasted a lot of time which I should have spent studying. I fell far behind other students in my class. Later, my English teacher found my problem and helped me out of the big trouble. How I regret the time I wasted, but thanks to my teacher, I realized it before I went too far.

Lost time is gone forever and can never be back. I sincerely hope that every one of us should have a strong sense of time and make good use of it.

Thats all. Thank you for listening.
