浅议英语名词的所有格

英语名词有三个格，即主格、宾格和所有格。名词的主格和宾格形式相同，所以它们被统称为通格。名词所有格表示名词与名词之间的所属关系，它有“名词+’s”、“of+名词”和“双重所有格”三种不同的结构。

1，“名词+’s”结构

“名词+’s”结构多用来表示有生命东西的所有格。

（1）“名词+’s”所有格的构成

一般来说，在单数名词和不以-s结尾的复数名词词尾加“’s”，在以一s结尾的复数名词后加“”’，如果是复合名词，则在最后的词的词尾加“’s”。

David Beckham is Paul’s hero，大卫·贝克汉姆是保罗所崇拜的英雄。

They found many birds’nests in the woods，他们在树林里发现了许多鸟巢。

表示两人共有的东西，在最后一个名词上加“’s”；表示各自拥有的东西，需在各名词后分别加“’s”。

This is Smith and Brown’s factory，这是史密斯和布朗共同经营的工厂。

These are Smith’s and Brown’s factories，它们分别是史密斯和布朗各自经营的工厂。

（2）“名词+’s”所有格的用法

①表示所属关系

The Yellow River is China’s mother river and the cradle of Chinese civilization

黄河是中国的母亲河，是中国文明的摇篮。

These chemicals in the food supply build up in people’s bodies over time，随着时间的推移，这些在食品供应中的化合物在人体中集结。

②表示类别

She graduated from a girl’s school，她毕业于一所女子学校。

Albert Einstein received a doctor’s degree in 1905，艾伯特·爱因斯坦于1905年获得博士学位。

③表示动作的执行者或承受者

We were all greatly encouraged by the teacher’s praise and studied harder than ever，老师的表扬使我们大受鼓舞，学习比以前更用功了。（’s所有格表示praise行为的主体）

The PLA mell soon came to the boy’s rescue，战士很快就前来营救那个男孩。（’s所有格表示rescue行为的对象）

④表示时间、距离、国家、团体等无生命名词的所有关系

It’s only five minutes’walk from here to his house，从这儿步行到他家只要五分钟。

Suzhou’s silk weaving has a long history，苏州丝织历史悠久。

【提醒注意】

应避免两个“’s”结构连用。例如“他是我哥哥朋友的父亲”，避免说：He is my brother，sfriend’s father，最好说：He is the father of my brother’s friend。

（3）“名词+’s”所有格后被修饰名词的省略

在不影响意思表达的情况下，“名词+’s”所有格可单独使用。

①避免名词重复时

William’s is a very large family，威廉先生的家是一个非常大的家庭。

②表示家宅、教堂、店铺等时

Did you visit St.Paul’s when you were in London？你在伦敦时参观过圣保罗大教堂吗？

2，“of+名词”结构

“of+名词”所有格结构多用于表示无生命东西的所有格。

（1）of所有格的用法

①表示所有关系

He mentioned the title of the book，but I forgot it，他曾提过这本书的名字，但我忘了。

Body language is one of the most powerful means of communication，often even，morepowerful than spoken language，身体语言是最强有力的交际手段之一，甚至经常比口头语言更有力量。

②表示主谓关系

The support of the family means a lot to me especially at hard times，对我来说。家人的支持很重要，尤其在困难时期。

③表示动宾关系

No country can afford to ignore the eduction of teenagers，任何国家都不可忽略对青少年的教育。

④表示同位关系

The city of Shanghai is known as an international city，上海以国际大都市而著称。

（2）所有格的互用

有时“名词+’s”和“of+名词”两种所有格可互换使用，意思不变。

I came across him again at the hotel’s entrance

I came across him again at the enhance of the hotel，我在宾馆门口又遇见他了。

It is reposed that tourism has become one of the world’s largest and fastest industries

It is reposed that tourism has become one of the largest and fastest industriesof the world

据报道旅游业已成为世界上最大和增长最快的产业之一。

【疑难辨析】

一些表示时间的词可有两种所有格形式，但意义不同。当它们分别表示“今天”、“昨天”、“明天”时，一般用一’s所有格；当它们分别表示“现在”、“过去”、“未来”时，一般用of所有格。

3，双重所有格

“of+-’s”结构叫做双重所有格，即“of+名词所有格，名词性物主代词”，前面既可与不定冠词a和any，some，several等表示数量的词连用，也可与this，that等词连用，表示感彩。

Have you ever read any books of Shakespeare’s？你读过莎士比亚写的书吗？

That girl of yours is really an angel，你的那个女儿真是个天使。

【疑难辨析】

有时，双重所有格与of所有格的意义有所不同。

Philip is an e-pal of my brother’s，菲利普是我哥哥的一个网友。（意思是说：我哥哥不止一个网友）

Philip is an e-pal of my brother，菲利普是我哥哥的网友。（意思是说：不是别人的网友）

This is a portrait of Elizabeth，这是伊丽莎白的画像。（画面的人物是伊丽莎白）

This is a portrait of Elizabeth’s，这是一幅属于伊丽莎白的画像。（伊丽莎白所收藏的画像）

4，名词所有格的特殊意义

名词所有格并不一定表示所有关系，有时可能表示其他意义，如表示类别，动作执行者或承受者等。例如：

This is a children’s hospital，这是一家儿童医院。（表类别）

We were aU waiting for the famous popular singer’s arrival，我们都在等那位著名流行歌手的到来。（表动作执行者）

They had no money to pay for their son’s education，他们没有钱支付儿子的教育费用。（表动作承受者）
