Appendage

Instead of our normal collection of topical apps, we have here an overview of a cross-section of apps. Our pick this time is an app that lets you make professional grade posters; there is also a magazine app, two travel aids and a word game.

Phoster ($1.99)

By Bucket Labs

This is an amazing design app that lets you create professional looking posters. Once you select from the poster styles available, you can customise it with colours and images. But the templates are so good that it would be tough to improve on them. The real USP of this app is the ease of use with the design elements. You can increase size of fonts, their colour and style so easily that it will take you just seconds to ruin the good templates. A must-have for those fascinated by Helvetica, Arial and other fonts.

Angry words ,(Free)

By Etermax

Similar to online scrabble in rules, the app gives you the option of playing a game with your Facebook and Twitter friends, or just creating a game to play with a random opponent online. You will need a decently fast connection to play the game, or the long waits for the opponent to come up with another word will pretty much kill you. On the plus side, you can chat with the other player.

Trippy ($0.99)

This is like the Pinterest of travel. Hundreds of photographs displayed on the app encourage you to check out the place of origin. Once you open the trip page you have the option of selecting if you have been to the place or hope to be there soon. You can share the location with others using the twitter or mail and also post your comments on the location. There is also a map view.

Guidepal City Guides (Free)

By Guidepal

A tablet is a very handy device on a summer holiday or business trip. It completely negates the need to carry multiple guide books along. Guidepal is one app that serves this purpose well. It has guide packages for all popular cities across the world , which however take a while to download even over Wi-Fi. Each pack has maps — with limited locations — of the cities showing select restaurants, shopping areas, museums etc.

Magzter (Free)

By Magzter Inc

This app has the best collection of Indian magazines along with a good repertoire of international reads. You will find hundreds of titles segregated into topics and regions. For Indians, this apps has a special charm for it has a long list of regional magazines like the entire India Today bouquet,Ananda Vikatanand other local favourites. Click on any title and you have the option of buying a single issue or subscribing for a longer term. All billing is done through iTunes.
