Tsinghua University Press recently launched a series of major publishing projects, and from 2005 to 2010, Tsinghua University Press published the nationally planned teaching materials for general higher education on the project of the “Eleventh Five-Year”, which hit 586 items. Tsinghua University Press is the publishing house with the largest number of varieties selected in nationally planned teaching materials of general higher education on the project of the “Eleventh Five-Year” in the field of computer teaching materials. In the field of original publication, the Multi-source Information Fusion is selected into the first “Three Lots of Hundred” original books publishing work in 2007. In 2008, Micro-nano Particle Composite and Functionalization Design was selected into the second Session of ‘Three Lots of Hundreds’ Award for original published works. In the field of publishing Fund, Confucian Classics, Arts Records, and Complemented Literature and Archaeology Collections for the History of Twenty-five Dynasties was approved as “Heavily Funded Item” of national leading and planning group for ancient books. In the field of books output, Human Settlement Scientific Thinking of Wu Liangyong got the funding from ‘Classic Chinese Publishing Project’ in 2009, and eight kinds of science and engineering English academic writings cooperated and published with Springer received funding from the “ Plan of China Book International” in 2009. Tsinghua University Press continued to publish a number of excellent works selected to be major publishing projects in 2011. For example, Microsystems and Nanotechnology, Random Game Model Based Network Security Analysis and Evaluation, Chaotic Signal and Information Processing, Structural Ceramics, Traffic Demand Forecast Theory and Method and Applications during Short Circle of Road Network and other works raised by Academic Works Publication Fund of State Science and Technology were published in 2011.
Tsinghua University Press was selected as the ‘Eleventh Five-Year’ National Key Publishing Project and received Clothes from China: Seven Thousand Years of China’s Clothing, which was financed by State Publishing Fund and published in 2011. Based on the historical documents and objects, in historical order and concise words, this masterpiece gives comprehensive and systematic introduction on the apparel development from the primitive society to modern society. It focuses on clothing form, costume system, garment material, clothing pattern, jewelry and accessories, and particularly emphasizes on mutual verification between fruits of archaeological science and historical documents, and it becomes an academic masterpiece that has the most comprehensive contents, the most abundant pictures with top quality, and the most scientific layout, which is full of historical research value, art appreciation value , collection value as well as popularity value among the books of Chinese clothing art history published so far. Projects including Courtyards in Beijing, Forbidden City in Beijing, Summer Palace in Beijing and Temple of Heaven in Beijing funded by Classic China International Publishing were published in 2011.
Major publishing projects being applied by Tsinghua University Press focused on brand building of “Going out”. Aimed at the mission of building a world-class university press, Tsinghua University Press always stands in the forefront of international publishing communication, devoting to ‘Going out” of excellent publications, expanding influence of China and enhancing the soft power of Chinese culture. In 2006, the State Council Information Office and General Administration of Press and Publication of the People's Republic of China set up the working group of "China Book International Promotion Campaign”, and Tsinghua University Press is one of first 20 member units. Currently, Tsinghua University Press will heavily launch Tsinghua Chinese Law Series, which is the first set of British legal textbooks, and the going out of Chinese laws will be achieved to enable foreign students and researchers understand and learn Chinese laws.
Tsinghua University Press has ever set up a major publishing project named “Tsinghua University Academic Writings Publication Fund” themselves, organized and published Tsinghua University Academic Writings Series to finance the publishing of high level academic writings on campus; it set up Tsinghua University Academic Writings Publication Fund Committee and Publishing Computer Academic Works Publication Fund in cooperation with brother press to finance the publication of computer-styled excellent academic writings. In 2007, this Publishing House launched accreditation mechanisms for “Tsinghua University Academic Writings Publication Fund” and “ Tsinghua University Press Academic Writings Publication Fund”. In 2010, the “Incentives for Tsinghua University Press Award-winning Publications and Intensive Publishing Projects” were promulgated to encourage the planning and organization of major publishing projects. In addition, Tsinghua University Press also continued to expand the scope of incentives. For instance, as regards to state key publication planned projects, the Publishing Housing also specified the incentive mechanism on key published and planned projects selected in “The Twelfth Five Plan” due to their linkages to the assessment of state publication fund. Recently, Tsinghua University Press was studying with appropriate departments of the University to enact a statute to set up Liberal Arts Publishing Fund financed by the publishing house to respond to the 12th Five-Year Plan targeted with ‘Breakthrough of Liberal Arts’. Tsinghua University Press declared translation subsidiary in different languages based on the demand around the world, Theory on History of China's Political Economy (Second Edition), released by Tsinghua University Press, is issued on the basis of published English version, and receives the funding of translation in Korean version.
Tsinghua University Press made great efforts on marketing planning and promotion of major publishing projects. On 2012 London Books Fair concluded just, Tsinghua University Press actively publicized excellent English scientific works. Especially, Tsinghua University Press cooperated with Springer, and won scientific works in English funded by “China Book International Promotion Plan”, promoting the project of “Classic China International Publishing Works” selected overseas. In addition, Contemporary Urban Space Research of Beijing series and the Clothes from China: Seven Thousand Years of China’s Clothing reflect the traditional Chinese clothing culture. Tsinghua University cubically implemented marketing plan by use of new media tools, achieving remarkable effects; these major projects not only improved the image of the press itself, but also enhanced its market share and realized satisfactory economic benefits.
