2012 is the key year for the Company to develop by “going out” with big strides. With an important platform of “China Book International Promotion Plan”, and opportunities of Beijing International Book Fair, Frankfurt Book Fair, London Book Fair, Italy Children's Book Fair and the Cross-Strait Book Trade Fair and other fairs, the Company has made significant breakthrough in copyright output, joint publishing and international exchanges and further reinforced the company’s position in “going out” in the industry, and therefore can continue to lead in “going out” among the national publishing enterprises.

I. Main Achievements

Has made new breakthroughs in copyright output to Taiwan. In 2012, the company set up booth in Taipei Pavilion of the Cross-Strait Book Fair for the first time to exhibit the books in traditional Chinese latest published by the company’s branch in Taiwan, and also contacted and negotiated with dozens of presses including Taiwan Windmill publishing Group, Taiwan Land Press, Taiwan Dah-jaan Press and Taiwan Greenland International Books Co., Ltd. to reach an agreement on 401 items of “Simple Chinese to Traditional Chinese for Youth” project, achieving a year-on-year growth of 14% compared with 350 in 2011, and making its copyright output to Taiwan among the best in China for two consecutive years.

A variety of its projects have got special assistance and funding from the Information Office of the State Council. In recent years, “going out” has become an important driving force for the company’s development. To adapt to the international market and to enhance the radiation force and international influence of its own brand, the company has been actively exploring the development model of going out, and has driven the development strategy of “going out” by major projects, including in-depth cooperation with Japan Azusa College Press, Poland Marl Vickers Publishing Co., Ltd. and Vietnamese Dingsi Cultural Trading Co., Ltd. and other agencies, Beauty of China, Annual Compilation of Medium-length Novels and Short Stories by Zhang Wei, General History of Chinese Timing Equipments, Chinese and a large number of other original topics have got special assistance from several funding projects of the Information Office of the State Council including Chinese Book International Translation Grants, Chinese Cultural Works Translation and Publishing Project, Bidding for Topics of Propaganda Overseas and Chinese Window.

Has established deep cooperation with Hanban and has had a variety of books selected to the Hanban Donation Book network. The network is established by Hanban aimed at promoting Chinese language teaching and disseminating Chinese culture by bringing together Chinese language teaching and the Chinese culture promotion publications published by domestic presses, establishing book resources pool, and providing free books resources to the institutions and individuals at home and abroad that meet the qualification requirements and have clear requirements. There have been a number of products of the Children’s Publishing House, Huangshan Publishing House and Literature Publishing House of the Company selected to the Hanban Donation Book network, including Learning Chinese with Ma Xiaotiao, Little Bookstore series, Chinese Red series, and Chinese Opera English Translation series, which fully reflects the strength and characteristics of the “going out” products of the company.

Enhance the company's international influence with great help of English website and new books and magazines of “Chinese Book International Promotion Plan”. In 2012, the company has recommended several hundred kinds of books on the CBI English website and new books and magazines overseas, especially the key books on the covers of special-issue magazine of the Frankfurt Book Fair for New Chinese Books were responded enthusiastically, and at the same time special person was arranged to keep a close eye on the latest dynamic and information on the website everyday and look for effective customer resources. Via the website and magazines it could further understand the relevant national policies, and establish contacts with a number of overseas businessmen, which provided large amount of effective information and resources for the company to carry out the “going out” and further promoted copyright output and physical export businesses of the company.

Accumulate a number of international resources via the platform of the fair to promote the development of copyright trade. During BIBF in 2012, the company held “1 +10” Matchmaking Conference for International Cooperation Business with Publishers in Latin American Countries, and has matched with 10 foreign publishing houses from Argentina, Mexico and other Latin American countries. On the conference the company introduced in English a large number of “go out” key projects catering for the Latin American countries, such as Chinese Road, Chinese Festival Series and Chinese Tea Culture Series, etc., and reached intent for nearly 50 copyrights output. This was not only the first large-scale cooperation between Chinese publishing companies and publishers in Latin American countries, but also an innovative initiative of the company to comprehensively improve the international spreading force of Chinese culture and to promote the Chinese culture to really “go out”. Both sides agreed to regularly exchange and visit to further implement cooperation projects and to promote the Sino-Latin American cultural exchanges and cooperation.

II. Highlight High Points

Undertake the major national culture external promotion topics of “going out” for the first time. The achievements made by the company in “going out” were highly recognized by the Information Office of the State Council and other ministries. In 2012, the Information Office of the State Council initiated topics for external promotion of Chinese culture “Program and Design of the International Spread of Chinese Culture” and specifically designated the Time Publishing & media co., ltd. and East China Normal University to undertake the topics, which fully reflects the influence and soft power of the company in “going out” of culture, and will further deeply promote the company to a new level in “going out”.

Organize “going out” topics planning competition in the whole company for the first time. In order to further strengthen pertinence of and improve the quality of the “going out” topics, and strengthen efforts in cooperation with foreign countries and enhance level of major projects, tightly surrounding the spirit of the relevant documents of the “12th five-year plan” going out plan for development of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Information Office of the State Council and the General Administration, the company initiated a system-wide “going out” topic selection and design competition in 2012 and planned a group of “going out” topics. This not only enriched the topics of resources, but also improved the understanding of the general staff on the “going out” work, which laid a solid foundation for building of resources pool and cultivating of talents for “going out” project in the next step.

The only local publishing group selected as the deputy director unit of China Book International Plan of the Information Office of the State Council. In recent years, as an important unit member of CBI, the company has actively explored in the external promotion of Chinese culture with its great efforts and unceasingly innovation and has made a series of achievements in copyright output, physical export, trade in cultural services and running of entities abroad, enabling it ranking No. 1 national wide on CBI ranking chart for three consecutive years. As the only local publishing group national wide hired as deputy director unit of the China Book International Plan in 2012, the company got deeply involved in promoting communication and spreading of Chinese culture to the world, which laid a solid foundation for further international cooperation.

The only publishing group national wide that exclusively and officially cooperates with the Embassy of Australia In order to consolidate the company's external cooperation resources and in-depth matching with Australia for international cooperation, the company has cooperated with the Australian Embassy for two consecutive years for the first time in the country, and jointly organized “Australian Literature Week” activities in Beijing and Hefei. Through these activities, the company recommended a number of key projects, established a number of cooperation resources, and reached agreements on a number of cooperation projects. It has established in-depth cooperation with Australian ATF Press and iZDOT Press, and gradually developed into strategic alliance with them, which played an important role in facilitating the strategic layout of the company's cooperation with foreign enterprises.
