the box、telly 和the tube

在英语中，有许多关于电视的俚语说法，如“the box”、“telly”和“the tube”。

3. Far too many people these days spend all the time

channel-hopping、channel-surfing 、channel-hopper和channel-surfer

在看电视的时候，有很多人会把持着遥控器不撒手，漫无目的地调换着频道，试图找一些有意思的节目看看，并且不会在某一个频道上停留太长时间。在英文当中，就有专门描述这一行为的词汇――“channel-hopping”和“channel-surfing”。另外，有这种行为的人，被称为是“channel-hopper”或“channel-surfer”。

ad break、commercial break和the break

无论中外，电视台都会经常在节目播放中或两个节目之间插播一些广告，而这类广告在英文中被称为“ad break”、“commercial break”或“the break”。

primetime和watershed

每天晚间7点到11点，是观众最集中最多的一个时段，电视台会把最好的节目拿出来播放，而这个时段就被称为“primetime”。另外，在西方还有一个跟时段有关的词――“watershed”，它指的是一个具体的时间点，过了这个时间后所播放的节目都是少儿不宜的。
