A classic Viennese Biedermeier apartment was treated as a loft. The architectonically changed structure of the old ground plan was dissected and newly formatted by using large-format, free-standing as well as built-in furniture blocks. The room sequence thereby created in accordance with the “Space in the Room” principle allows for the intended blending of living and working zones as well as private and public areas, thereby transforming the traditional apartment into an open, loft-like space, in which the original boundaries between the individual rooms become insignificant.

The already existing “inner skin” of the apartment was completely refurbished, the old stucco restored, completed and their splendour colourfully emphasised in certain areas by strong black and white contrasts. New functional, room-creating pieces of furniture maintain reduced, clear angular shapes and engage in a dialogue with the playful wall contours with their large, white and simple bodies.

The highly differently designed individual rooms and room sections are presenting themselves as a sequence of pictures and scenes taken from different films. Areas that are often very colourful and strongly patterned, designed with a strong ironic tone, are not necessarily in a direct context with each other. Supported by inserted art objects, these areas depict the different thoughts and moods, which are floating as independent islands in a wholeness of black and white, discernible from all perspectives.
