Introduction

Decorative schemes in early days had adapted to the requirements of people on daily work and living, but were in shortage of a necessary artistic aesthetic feeling, so that the original aesthetic value of buildings was lost. In the new period, the decorative and design industry has obtained a remarkable development and the advanced design ideas have been integrated into scheme designs, and thus the design results are ensured to be consistent with the actual requirements of users. Now, in this paper, under the guidance of new decorative design idea, the artistic value of integrating traditional Chinese elements into the interior design of residential buildings and some methods needing attention in the real design are analyzed.

Shortcomings of the Traditional Decorative Design

Decorative design is an affiliated industry developing from the construction industry. It is used for making a comprehensive decorative change to building structure so that a more superior indoor environment can be created and also the quality of people’s indoor activities can be improved. The construction industry has developed in China for a long time, but the building decorative design industry is started relatively late. Because of the industrial operation particularities, the traditional decorative design plans remain to have obvious shortcomings.

Functions. Decorative design is to make a comprehensive change to building structure in essence and implement an overall scheme design according to the needs of the owners so that the utilization rate of indoor structure and space can be improved, as shown in figure 1. The normal application of the indoor functions in buildings can be ensured, and this is most fundamental requirements of decorative design. The traditional decorative design companies pay attention only to the execution of drawing plans, but does not give a consideration to the requirements of the owners on the use functions in living. For example, the space in indoor sitting room and bedroom is not sufficient, and thus the spatial pattern is narrow mostly and the expected use functions are difficult to play.

Aesthetics. The drawing plans after a decorative design have to conform to the use functions of users on living, and also should make innovations in artistic aesthetic feelings. This is because that people propose higher requirements on the aesthetics of the living or working environment but are no longer confined to the use of a single space after the improvement of the material life quality. The design ideas always giving priority to the change of space structure for a long time make the division of indoor space excessively considered in the designing process, and thus the art elements of aesthetics are applied a little. The change as a decorative tone without aesthetics has reduced the artistic beauty and inner value of the decorative design.

Key Points of Integrating the Traditional Elements in Decorative Design

With the planning and development of the construction industry, the affiliated industries related to the construction industry have also been optimized and upgraded, and thus decorative design is just an emerging industry serving for the reconstruction of buildings. As for the residential buildings, decorative design is to make a change to the existing interior space pattern mainly according to the specific living and use conditions of the owners, so as to create a characteristic living environment and improve the daily living conditions of users. Because of the optimization and change of the aesthetic ideas, the designers begin to change the shortcomings of the traditional decorative design through using new elements, and traditional Chinese elements are very common decorative elements. The author thinks that three key points (space, color, and accessories) should be emphatically controlled in the introduction of traditional elements for aiding the design.

Space. The rationalization of space and also bringing an esthetical feeling to people are not only the basic tasks of design, but also the key factors necessary to control in the process of enhancing the art value of decorative design plans. To integrate traditional Chinese elements in the interior decoration, it is necessary to control the utilization rate of the existing space resources, and make a comprehensive use of the inherent interior space area under the premise of following the owners’ design demands, as shown in figure 2. For example, designers have to possess innovative ideas and become brave in exploring space’s new images endowed by the times and technologies, but are not confined to the space image formed in the previous time. The most primitive cultural essence of China can be expressed if the potential cultural connotation of traditional Chinese elements is completely applied to interior decorative plans, so that the layout of interior space is of more cultural meanings and also the feeling of space will be intense.

Colors. Proper color processing can not only accord with the functional requirements and also can make a beautiful effect, and therefore the application of colors is also a very important element giving an expression to the art intention of the decorative designs. In consideration of the special characteristics of traditional Chinese elements, it is necessary to lay a stress on the selection and collocation of color tones in the modern decorative designs, so that the artistic values of the traditional colors can be reflected as much as possible. Usually, in addition to necessarily abiding by the conventional color laws, interior colors should be changed differently along with the change of the aesthetics in the current times, and also tightly focus on the inner characteristics of traditional Chinese elements. Thus, the value of color art can be played to the maximum. For example, some owners, who prefer the ancient decorative styles, will often choose the ancient calligraphy, seal cutting, and sculpture as the backgrounds. This proposes a strict requirement on the collocation of colors.

Accessories. The building components, pillars and walls, which are essential in an interior space, should be decorated in combination with their functions, and then a perfect indoor environment can be commonly constituted. Making full use of the textural characteristics of different decorative materials can help acquire changing-over and different styles of interior art effect, and simultaneously can give a reflection to the historical and cultural characteristics of different regions. In the interior decorative design of the residential buildings, different adornments can be chosen as accessories according to the requirements of the different professional levels so that the indoor environment can become traditional but does not lose elegance, as shown in figure 3. For example, traditional Chinese painting, Dunhuang frescoes, picturesque sceneries, and freehand brush works are chosen as the wall decorations; cage, potted landscapes, five-leaved pine, bamboo, peony, plum blossom, and lotus can be used as space decorations. All these can give a vivid expression to the profound art qualities.

Application Study of Color Art

Color is a relatively important element necessary to be controlled in interior decorative design, and also can locally make an improvement to the art effect of interior decorative plans. Many traditional Chinese elements have a close tie with colors, and this just provides a good condition for the integration of the traditional elements into the decorative design. Interior decorative design plays a direct influence on the visual effect of human eyes, and promotes human to experience the art charm of color collocation from the sensory organ. Many traditional elements handed down from the ancient China have a close tie with colors, and colors can be reasonably chosen according to different decorative patterns.

Romantic Pink. In traditional Chinese culture, high importance is attached to "red", which symbolizes the aesthetic feelings of happiness and brightness. However, in the modern decorative design concept, "red" is changed to "pink", which seems to be slightly light in color tone but is more suitable for young people to pursue a romantic art enjoyment, so as to create a sweeter environment. The new color is stable and comfortable and contains rich characteristics, and thus reduces the exaggeration compared with the previous "red". The influence of the pink has been obvious. In the meantime, new coral tone has emerged, and highly-bright color and soft skin color have brought a little warmth to people. Silk art works is China's classical art symbol, and all kinds of art works made of silk materials are rich in a profound art connotation. Thus, the application of silk art works to interior decoration owns a greater development space.

Warm Orange. The color realizes a balance between the bright color of red pepper and the natural color of brick soil; the application of Chinese elements collocation plays an effect of balancing interior color tones, and therefore it belongs to the typical use example of the simple art. For example, the combination of orange with classic dragon and phoenix pattern and auspicious cloud pattern can give an expression to a powerful, lively and colorful artistic conception, and also makes the color tone more confident in the whole indoor environment. In addition, a little yellow can be used and collocated for adjusting orange, and the gentle neutral shades can produce a strong sense of tolerance, and comfort other people and make them relaxed. For example, the elegant color combined by candle light and champagne elegant color can add warmth and charm, and also create a swaying and subtle atmosphere, so that the charm of decorative art can be closer to the living conception of human.

Conclusion

In short, the construction industry is a very important part of the market economy system, and the key operation projects of enterprises have provided building construction and people with multiple places such as living, office and entertainment places. The improvement of the material life quality has promoted the change of people's aesthetic awareness, and also the aesthetic values of people on home decorative design are greatly increased. Therefore, attaching high importance to the aesthetic and artistic values is the key index for the owners to measure the quality of decorative design. In view of this, it is necessary for the designers to combine with the living standards with the owners, propose a practically scientific art design plan, and ensure the decorative design operated orderly.
