Abstract. Higher vocational English teaching is a kind of education discipline which is more inclined to occupation and technology, whose basic teaching export is to lay foundation for their future employment. In terms of the social environment of the new period, along with the continuous improvement of the national open economic environment, the society pays more attention to the wide application of the tool of the English language. Therefore, in order to meet the needs of society, to lay a more favorable foundation of knowledge for the students is an important part of English teaching in Higher Vocational Colleges in the new period. This article first analyzes the importance of English teaching reform in higher vocational education, and then analyzes the direction of curriculum reform from the angle of theory, and puts forward the concrete reform strategies.

With the speeding up of economic globalization, especially after China's entry into the WTO, "the development of the world cannot do without China, and China's development cannot do without the world". As one of the most popular languages in the world, English is favored by more people. All sides of the society have put forward a higher requirement for the quality and the quantity of the training of foreign talents. The higher occupation education is an important part of modern higher education. It is close to the needs of the society, and is an important way to promote the employment of china. English, as an essential aspect of the quality construction of higher vocational talents, it has been the concern of many higher vocational English teaching staff and learners how to adapt to the needs of the development of the era, reflect on its own disadvantages of the English teaching in vocational colleges themselves, define its mission and explore the feasibility of the road, which is more conducive to cultivate high-quality talents.

1. Interpretation of the concept of Higher

Vocational Education

The higher occupation education is an important part of higher education in China, and is a type of higher education. It is the occupation education targeted the implementation to cultivate high skilled talents with higher education theory knowledge and advanced technical skills in the Frontline of production technology, management and services on the basis of the high school culture (or the equivalent high school culture) and professional and technical skills. Therefore, the higher occupation education has a unique position in the whole higher education system. That is to say, the higher vocational education has the duality of higher education and occupation education. The "high" and "vocation" of higher vocational education is not the "compressed biscuits" of the undergraduate, nor the simple copy of the secondary occupation education. Higher vocational education is first of all the higher education, and is also the occupation education of high level. The training objectives of the higher occupation education are: the personnel on the front-line production, the applied talents with the theoretical basis and practical skills of high-quality. More colloquially, it is the "silver" talents, between "white-collar" and "blue collar" -- active in the forefront of the senior technicians and professional management staff. They can transform the research results of the design into productive forces. Higher vocational education talent training is directly connected with the creation of wealth. As a new mode of higher education, it effectively compensates for the lack of the traditional education system, and meets the needs of the contemporary development of the knowledge economy.

2. The present situation of English teaching in higher vocational education

2.1. Class time is not reasonable.

In many vocational college courses, there exist misunderstandings for non-English majors in English class arrangements. The class schedule focuses on learning the professional courses, and the professional classes continue to increase, while the English curriculum is gradually reduced, and the listening and speaking courses are even more pitiful. The class schedule for the English curriculum is shorter and shorter. The teaching concepts of many English teachers are not reasonable. The lack of classes makes greater pressure on English teaching, and the mastery of basic knowledge of English is affected. At the same time, listening and speaking courses as coordinated. The first cut class objects make way for the training for the students of the concession of English grammar, reading and writing ability.

2.2. Course learning is boring and dull.

In many higher vocational English teaching classrooms, there still exists the mode that the teacher explains the theory and programs focus, and the students take notes and recites the test points. This kind of learning pattern greatly weakens the enthusiasm of the students in English learning, especially in the training of English listening and speaking ability. The cultivation of listening and speaking ability still focuses on hearing the tape of the books and reading the texts. The teaching mode has little difference with the teaching methods of high schools and middle schools, without considering the actual need of personnel training, which does not take into account the interests of students, so that the teaching effect is not ideal or even worse.

2.3. The basic knowledge of English is weak.

The students in higher vocational colleges are relatively weak mostly in English knowledge. In the process of English teaching, teachers often ignore the problem, but unreasonably raise and speed the higher vocational students, and students with a weak foundation in English can not keep up the pace of teaching. The reduction of the class schedule makes the teachers unable to systematically and comprehensively consolidate class basic knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and others.

2.4. Listening and hearing are separated from reading and writing, with only writing stressed.

Based on the requirements of all the current examinations and grading tests, English learning of higher vocational college students is largely confined to reading and writing. As long as the practice of reading and writing tests, basically there is no problem, but the proportion of hearing in the tests is very small, and are often ignored in the review. The separation of the cultivation of listening and speaking ability and the ability to read and write makes the training of the ability of listening and speaking lose the basis, unstable like castles in the air. When many college students meet with foreigners after graduation, in addition to the "how are you" and "how do you do", there is no word for Hello in spoken English, which we have to say is a kind of tragedy for the higher vocational English teaching.

3. The theoretical direction of education reform of Higher Vocational English teaching

Domestic scholars have pointed out the direction of the reform of English curriculum in higher vocational education can be from the following three aspects: (1) systematic process to develop curriculums; (2) education reform under the foundation of diversified curriculum; (3) application of professional English curriculum reform. The following are the specific analyses of these three aspects:

3.1. Develop systematic courses based on the students' future work direction

Higher vocational education is to directly face the social needs, so with the students future employment direction, it is a feasible direction to set up the system of the curriculum in combination with the working process. This theory claims to combine language teaching with the working process. In the course of development, we need to design a professional point of view on the basis of the professional industry positioning, and carry on the analysis according to the application of the industry, put away the single communication tool types from English teaching in the traditional mode of education, so as to enhance the professional achievements of English teaching, so that students’ learning tends to be more specialized on applications.

3.2. Mode of curriculum reform on the basis of diversified education

The diversification of education is developed from the basis of the diversification of intelligence theory. The higher vocational education itself needs to pay attention to the diversity of training requirements of students’ intelligence, while the transformation of the traditional English teaching methods lacks professional direction. This reform will focus on the English teaching differentiation type. On the one hand it focuses on the basic knowledge of English teaching, to ensure that students can master enough basic communication skills. On the other hand it pays attention to students’ professional learning and application direction of the English professional knowledge. In the specific course design, its attention focuses on the direction of higher vocational education, adjusts the teaching of the basic knowledge and professional knowledge of teaching proportion, to blend with each other, to meet the diversified educational demand.

3.3. English curriculum reform of the professional application

A professional English teaching theory began in the nineteen sixties. Our country imported it in the late 80's. Domestic scholars also analyze the related contents of the theory, and gradually divided English into the types of general English and professional English. Professional English as ESP is a kind of a demand analysis based on the theory of functionalist view of language, which pays attention to cultivating practical and pragmatic competence. The positioning mode of the application of the English courses tends to be more professional, but not limited to the teaching fields, which has the characteristics of the diversification and composite application, in accordance with the characteristics of higher vocational education.

4. Suggestions on the higher vocational English education in the new period

English Teaching in higher vocational education should adhere to market-orient and adhere to the occupation development for the benefit of students as a starting point, seize the opportunity of the national support, change the teaching mode to develop the higher vocational English education. To start, we should seize the keys from the following several aspects, in order to meet the demands of the development of Higher Vocational English education in the new period.

4.1. Well-defined goals

The cultivation of the ability of language, language learning and language cultural influence is the three main objectives of Higher Vocational English teaching and learning. This requires that in a text learning, the learners improve speaking and writing ability, master some of the core vocabulary, idioms and their usage, and understand the text, at the same time, explore the western cultural characteristics of text, and its inheritance, a comparative interpretation of similarities and differences between Chinese and western culture, and finally creatively manifest the result of research learning in the form of the English essay, English short play and other forms, and cultivate initiative, participation, cooperation, scientific and other excellent qualities in this process.

4.2. English teaching in higher vocational education should pay attention to the ideological education of students.

The goal of the strong support of the national occupational education is to cultivate talents in accordance with the requirements of the development of a socialist economy, who can be accepted by the socialist market economy, and who is beneficial to the economic society. The person who is beneficial to humanity and society must be the one who has a healthy thinking and values the right. Students in higher vocational education are in the period of opening their eyes to see the world and gradually form the value of life and the society. But the domestic and international social environment is complex, which is easy to mislead them. The higher vocational English education has the responsibility to act as the role of the guide, teaching and preaching them in thought. The higher vocational English education should not only grasps student achievement in the past, but should guide the students to form values, to help the school to cultivate talents who have the ideal, belief and a sense of responsibility, self-reliance, strong will and good ability to adapt to the environment and the psychological bearing ability. Paying attention to the ideological education of students is paying attention to observing the performance of students’ ideology, and combining value education into the daily teaching. In the discussion part of English teaching, value can be used as the theme. We should understand the ideological situation of higher vocational students. We should encourage the right, and guide the wrong, to help the growth of students in thought.

4.3. To innovate education mode, and create a favorable environment

The utility of higher vocational students is not strong. The most fundamental is the backward teaching methods. English teaching must innovative teaching mode, with flexible and innovative teaching to stimulate students' interest in learning English. For example, the quality development should be combined with English teaching, and we can carry out English language speech, recitation, singing, debate competition in and outside the classroom, as well as the English comic operas which can also simulate situations, and build a kind of learning atmosphere students are interested in. Also we can consider teaching moving out of the classroom, to the related English in real life and work. For example, we can encourage students to participate in the volunteer service, and let students participate in business translation and writing in English. The most important of this kind of form is the teacher’ full participation and guidance to help students to solve the difficulties and grasp the opportunity to timely summarize. For the situation of higher vocational students’ individual differences, we can teach students in accordance with their aptitude, and take the hierarchical teaching. It can improve the students' interest in learning English and English application ability. At the same time, because of the social practice, the work and the society with certain knowledge, the emotional basis is laid, which is conducive to student employment.

4.4. To cultivate a group of high-quality vocational English teacher

College English teacher in Higher Vocational English education is a direction, a guide, who directs the students' English learning, and also affects students' idea and way of life from the deep influence of environment, so that college English teacher is particularly important. To cultivate a group of highly qualified English teachers in higher vocational colleges should first grasp English teachers access in vocational colleges. English teachers in vocational colleges should have a sound personality. Based on this, they should be proficient in the professional level, to teach the correct knowledge to students. The vocational training of English teachers is also very important, which should be regularly carried out. We can use the winter and summer vacation time to organize vocational training for English teachers. The learning method can be not only the survey practice in enterprises, but also can be the visitor and study etc. Doing so is to broaden the horizons of Higher Vocational English teachers, strengthen the ability of English teaching, and better serve the development of Higher Vocational education.

5. Conclusion

"University English" as one of the most important courses for the students in Higher Vocational Colleges need teachers to make full use of various interactive modes effectively, enlarge students' participation and arouse the enthusiasm of students, in order to improve the effect of teaching. Class teaching with students as the center has become the leading. Teachers should constantly improve the teaching methods in order to adapt to such a big trend and develop talents who can truly take English as a useful tool. Through the effective use of various teaching strategies, teach students in accordance with their aptitude and time, which can make teachers and students get rid of the influence of traditional teaching method and promote the interaction between teachers and students. Thus the classroom truly becomes the place where teachers and students exchange, to enable students to be more interested in English learning, and improve the overall effect of ability and the teaching of students' language, and directly improve the students finally learning outcomes, which can not only meet the new requirements of the reform of education and teaching of students, but can also better meet the social increasing communicative competence requirements on College Students' academic degree, academic exchange, overseas and other aspects.
