通过不同的语境提高英语词汇学习效率

摘 要：词汇学习在高中英语教学中的重要性不言而喻，但是在实际的词汇教学和学习中，传统的教师讲、学生记的方法使得词汇教学和学习的效果甚微。通过对一节在语境中学习英语词汇公开课的思考，旨在探索英语词汇学习的更有效方法。

本文作者有幸参加了2016年4月18日在南京市雨花台中学举行的教研活动，开课的其中一位老师上的内容是模块七第四单元的Reading第二课时，即文章中的知识点，这也是许多老师感到比较难上的一节课。传统的老师讲、学生记的方式效果不太理想，也比较枯燥。英语词汇学习讲究语境，下面笔者就谈谈开课老师是怎样利用语境来学习知识点的。

在学习知识点之前，这位老师先组织学生通过短文填空的形式复习了文章的主要内容。所填的空格中包含了即将学习到的distinction，convey，postpone，link up， undertake 几个词汇。接着，老师把这几个词汇通过PPT的形式展示出来，以加深印象。然后，再逐一对这几个词汇进行学习。在学习distinction时，老师先展示了著名篮球运动员Kobe Bryant的照片，然后通过下面的短文让学生去猜测distinction在不同句子里的含义。如下所示：

Last Friday， Lakers legend Kobe Bryant hit the court for the last time as a player，and if you want to see Kobe Bryant’s last game？ You’ll need to pay at least $800 for he is a basketball player of distinction. He has no distinct technical shortcomings，which is distinct from other basketball players. There must be some fake tickets appearing on the market， so you must make a distinction between genuine tickets and fake tickets if you want to see the final match of Kobe.

通过这个小短文，学生很快就学到了distinction和distinct的词性和含义。Distinction是名词，意思是fame， difference；distinct 是形容词，意思是obvious，different，然后作者通过翻译句子的形式巩固了这两个词汇的用法。

在学习convey 这个词的时候，老师也是通过不同的例句让学生体会这个单词在不同句子中的汉语意思。在学习postpone 这个词时，这位老师通过延长退休年龄的一幅画让学生印象深刻地记住了这个词的含义和用法。在学习link up 这个短语时，也是通过画面的形式， 让学生去体会这个短语的意思和用法。在学习undertake 时，老师先展示了下面一篇短文，让学生先理解画线部分词汇的含义。如下所示：

The police have announced that they will conduct a full investigation into the accident. Mr. Smith takes the main responsibility for that investigation and he promises to finish the case by Friday.

老师先没有急于呈现undertake这个词，而是让学生理解上面短文，用本课刚复习过的词去替换画线部分的词汇。这样学生就很容易地想到了undertake，知道了它的含义：着手做；进行；承担，担任；承诺，保证，答应。 之后再通过一些练习来加以巩固。最后，老师把本节课所学的几个词汇的用法以PPT的形式集中呈现出来，让学生大声朗读，加强记忆。

在本节课的结尾环节，老师安排了一个写作任务，是介绍南京地铁三号线的。

三号线被称为红楼专线，红楼文化墙串联起红楼梦中九大经典场景 ，将中国经典文化的精神内涵传递给市民。

三号线还串联起了南京的许多旅游景区，缓解了旅游旺季时的交通压力。

三号线作为南京第一条过江地铁线，连接了江南江北，促进了南北沟通交流，加快了南京经济的发展。

The Special functions of Metro Line 3

Nowadays， metro has undertaken a significant role in conveying Nanjing citizens to their working and living areas. Line 3， known as a special line of the Red Mansions， is a line of distinction. The cultural wall related to Red Mansions links up nine classic scenes of A Dream of Red Mansions， which convey the spirit of Chinese classics to the public.

In addition，Line 3 also links up tourist attractions in Nanjing， reducing the traffic pressure during the tourist seasons. Last but not least， as the first metro line crossing The Yangtze River，line 3 connects the north and south districts of Nanjing， promoting North-South communication and undertaking a significant role in economic development.

As is known to us，more lines will be added in the future and the metro system of Nanjing will be enlarged and more user-friendly.

通过短文写作的形式，学生又一次复习巩固了本节课所学的undertake，convey，distinction，link up等几个知识点的含义和用法。

纵观本节课，我们发现，老师在教授知识点时，自始至终都注重把知识点贯穿在具体的语境中，从课文内容的复习，到知识点的讲解和操练，到最后的灵活运用，无一例外。从篇章，到句子，到词汇，再到句子、篇章，而不是孤立地去讲解某个词的用法。这样的学习词汇方式需要老师在备课时花很多时间和精力，但是，“磨刀不误砍柴工”，学生的学习效果事半功倍。如果每节词汇课都能用类似的方法上而不仅仅是公开课，那么词汇教学和学习就不愁教不好，学不好。
