Your New Pet Dog: Celluon evoMouse 新的宠物“狗”:激光投影鼠标

Take a look at the devices you are using now; do you know how they used to look 30 years ago? From what type of electronic devices did they evolve from? Do you ever imagine how they will look in, say, 20 years? If there is one thing that technological evolution is good at, it's making things better: just like what "evolution" has done to the PC mouse. Long ago, we bid adios1) to the ballpoint mouse, then the optical mouse2) and the wireless mouse, and now brace yourself for3) the new celluon evomouse.

Celluon evoMouse is the latest and probably most cutting-edge version of the mouse. The Seoul-based leader in 3D Electronic Perception Technology has added this product to its technology lineup and released a video previewing its features.

So what is the evoMouse? It's a mouse that allows you to use your finger as a pointer in place of a physical mouse. It sits right at the position where you would usually place a mouse, and through its two infrared sensors4) that look like eyes, it allows the usual mouse functions: click and select, drag and drop, right click, and double-click. It also allows a few more functions similar to what touch enabled devices have such as rotate, pinch to zoom5), and handwriting recognition, which you can do using your finger or a pen.

What's even more interesting is that the evoMouse can be connected wirelessly via Bluetooth or can be wired via USB. Yes, you heard it right! The evoMouse is a USB peripheral6) so you don't have to worry about charging it all the time. However, if you choose to use it wirelessly, you can have it running for two hours once charged.

Seeing the image of this USB mouse for the first time, users will probably just say it is "cute". Well it really is! Molded into the shape of an animal, and with two sensors resembling a pair of eyes, it looks nothing like the famous rodent from which the device is named. We heard that Celluon almost called it "pet", but because of similar functions decided to stick with, well, "Mouse".

Celluon promises that this USB gadget7) works on most flat surfaces and does not need a huge amount of space to operate. In terms of compatibility8), it works with PCs and laptops with Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7. Moreover, it works with your Windows Mobile, Blackberry and Symbian devices. Sorry, Mac users are out of luck for now.

Finally, what may be the best advantage of the evoMouse is that you don't use it like an ordinary PC or Mac mouse. Instead, the way it operates lets your fingers do the moving and naturally reduces the risk of repetitive stress injuries such as the dreaded carpal tunnel syndrome.
