MoZella在幼年时便已对音乐制作人史提夫·汪达（Steive Wonder）、歌星披头士以及麦当娜崇拜不已，于是14岁时就开始在底特律的一些咖啡餐吧中抱着吉他弹唱自己的原创歌曲。高中毕业后，MoZella为了能在音乐上有更为长远的发展，只身一人前往洛杉矶。初时，MoZella白天上班，晚上在酒吧驻唱，这样的生活一直持续到她遇到饶舌歌手Warren G。她录制了自己的第一张原创样带，正是这张样带使她成功签约Maverick唱片公司。2004年初，著名音乐制作人Jude Cole亲自操刀为MoZella打造首张同名专辑，专辑一经发行便在美国引起巨大反响。
