Taylor Swift: Never Grow Up泰勒·斯威夫特:天后长不大

Taylor Swift started her career when she was just

16, and she’s 21, so in the last five years this “child”

has basically grown up before our eyes. She is one of

the most famous people in the world.

Interviewer: Can you lead a normal life?

Taylor Swift: I think normal is…is, you know, your perception of “normal.” I see a lot of people in this position go to extreme lengths for the sake of privacy, and, for me, I’m just not willing to make that sacrifice. I know that there are fans sitting in the restaurant across the street from my apartment building, but I’m gonna go walk and get coffee because I like to walk and go get coffee.

Interviewer: So, but don’t they come up and…

Taylor: Yeah, and it’s…it’s like 20 seconds of your day to get a picture with someone. So you can live your life, you can get pictures with fans, you can, you know, stop for a minute because they’ve given me a lot more than…than I ever expected to have in this life, so a minute of your time really isn’t that much to ask.

Interviewer: Taylor, I’ve been with you just a couple of days, and you’ve mentioned that you don’t have a boyfriend about five times. Hey guys, if you’re paying attention, she’s ready.

Taylor: It’s just kind of a fact, though. It’s not like a…it’s not like me going, “So guys, I don’t have a boyfriend. I know you’re watching,” you know.

Interviewer: But it sounds like you miss it. Of course, everybody wants to be in love.

Taylor: Everybody wants to be in love.

Interviewer: It’s the best feeling.

Taylor: Yeah.

Interviewer: It’s the best feeling.

Taylor: I’m good, though. I’m good being alone, like, I have a routine, I’m not…I don’t wanna ever be one of those people who just needs a boyfriend all the time.

Interviewer: But you wanna get married…one day, have a man.

Taylor: Oh, yeah.

Interviewer: Yeah. And do you wanna have children?

Taylor: Like, 10 of them.

Interviewer: You wanna have 10 children? Taylor: So many kids; like an army of kids.

Interviewer: So, we’re sitting here in your apartment. So, was it hard to move out of the house with your family? That…was that 1)wrenching, or were you just really ready? Get me out!

Taylor: No, I was really ready. I was…I was almost 20 when I moved out. All my friends had gone to college, and they’d moved out a year and a half before.

Interviewer: You wrote a…a song―very 2)poignant song―about “Never Grow Up.”

Taylor: Yeah. I actually wrote the song, “Never Grow Up” the first time that I walked into this apartment, after I’d bought it. I thought, “Oh, man, this is real now. Like, this is happening. Oh, wow, we’re all getting older, and soon my parents are gonna be older, and then I’m gonna be older, and then I’m gonna have to think about grownup things, and I’m already starting to have to think about grownup things,” and I just sort of got this feeling, like, “Oh, wait, this is all real, this is all happening.”(Taylor singing) I...I actually finished the song the first night that I moved in, and kind of felt lonely.

Interviewer: So you did feel 3)ambivalent, really.

Taylor: A little bit. It was a…a mixed emotion, as everything is.

Interviewer: She’s a cultural leader and she knows it.

Taylor: Well, I definitely think about a million people when I’m getting dressed in the morning and…

Interviewer: Whoa.

Taylor: …that’s just part of my life now. And…

Interviewer: You’re a role model and you know it.

Taylor: I think it’s my responsibility to know it, and to be conscious of it. And it would be really easy to say, you know, I’m…I’m 21 now. I do what I want. You raise your kids. But it’s not…not the truth of it. The truth of it is that every singer out there with songs on the radio is raising the next generation. So make your words count.

Interviewer: What’s it like to achieve your dream so early?

Taylor: You know, it’s great.

Interviewer: The answer is it’s great.

Taylor: You know it’s not bad. And it just means that I have a lot of time to figure out how I’m going to prove myself over and over and over again and I have time to do it.
