seem是初中生必须掌握的四会词之一，可用作连系动词或不及物动词，意为“似乎、好像、看来”，用来表示说话人内心的、有一定依据的推测、判断或猜想。它在初中英语课本中的常见用法主要有：
一、“Seem （to be） + n.（作表语）”，此结构中的to be可以省略，但名词前一般有形容词修饰。例如：
Tom seems （to be） a very clever boy. 汤姆看上去是个很聪明的男孩。
His father seems （to be） a kind man. 他父亲看起来像是个和善的人。
She seems to be an American. 她好像是美国人。（to be不能省略）
二、“Seem （to be） + adj.（作表语）”，此结构中的to be也可以省略，但如果后面是afraid、asleep、awake等表语形容词，则to be不能省略。例如：
She seemed （to be） tired. 她看样子累了。
The boy seems （to be） honest. 这男孩似乎是诚实的。
These girls seem （to be） very happy. 这些女孩子们似乎很高兴。
The children seem to be afraid of the teacher. 孩子们好像怕老师。
三、“Seem + 介词like和in引起的短语”，seem like表示“看上去好像”，seem in表示“看起来处于……状态”。例如：
The English-Chinese dictionary seems to me like an old friend. 这本英汉词典对我来说好像是一位老朋友。
They seem in high spirits. 他们似乎境界很高。
The girl seems like a happy bird. 那女孩好似一只快乐的小鸟。
四、“Seem + 不定式或不定式的完成式”，此句型中的seem用作不及物动词，不用在进行时态中，其与不定式一起构成复合谓语（不定式作宾语）。例如：
① The moon seems to change its shape. 月亮好像在变换形状。
② I seem not to be able to make him happy. 我似乎不能使他高兴起来。
③ They seemed to be eating something. 他们好像在吃什么东西。
④ I seem to have caught a cold. 我似乎已经感冒了。
【温馨提示】
Seem后跟不定式（短语）时，要注意不定式所表示动作发生的时间，以此来确定不定式的时态，如例③、④；seem后不定式的否定式习惯上在seem前加don’t，也可用seem not to...，如例②也可说成：I don’t seem to be able to make him happy。
五、Seem与代词it连用，构成“It seems/seemed that...”句式。该句式相当于“从句的主语 + seem to do”。例如：
It seems that the baby’s temperature is all right.（= The baby’s temperature seems to be all right.） 这婴儿的体温正常。
It seems that she is thinking.（=She seems to be thinking.） 她好像在思考什么。
It seems that they have been on the earth thousands of years.（=They seem to have been on the earth thousands of years.）它们似乎已在地球上生存了数千年。
六、“It seems/seemed to somebody that...”意为“在某人看来好像、仿佛……”，这种结构用来表示“行为”的主体。例如：
It seems to him that he would never be able to work out the problem. 在他看来好像无法解决那个问题。
It seems to us a good chance. 对我们来说似乎是一个好机会。
It seems to me everything is all right. 对我来说似乎一切都不错。
七、“There seems/seemed （to be）...”意为“似乎有……”。例如：
There seems （to be） no answer to the question. 这个问题似乎没有答案。
There seems （to be） a mistake in these answers. 这些答案中好像有错误。
There doesn’t seem to be too much hope of our team beating theirs. 看来我们队战胜他们队没有多大希望了。
八、“It seems + as if从句”，as if引导的从句是表语从句，有时从句的谓语动词用虚拟形式。例如：
It seems as if he knew nothing about her. 好像他根本不了解她似的。
It seems as if it is going to rain. 看起来天快要下雨了。
It seemed as if they would marry in the end. 看来他们终于要结婚了。
【温馨提示】
该句型也可说成“It looks as if...”。例如：
It looked /seemed as if he would have nothing to take home to his wife and children. 看来他没有什么能带回家给妻子儿女了。
