Economic Words and Phrases with Chinese Characteristics and the Translation

【摘要】A lot of researches about the translation of words and phrases with Chinese characteristics have been done so far， but economic words and phrases with Chinese characteristics have not been thoroughly explored. So， the thesis first systematically introduces economic words and phrases with Chinese characteristics. Then， the author analyzes the methods to translate those words and phrases： transliteration， transliteration with explanation， literal translation， and free translation.

1.Introduction

In the process of economic exchange and globalization， the influence of economic words and phrases with Chinese characteristics continues to expand. Those words and phrases are peculiar to China and show our unique culture and huge changes in economy； thus it is significant to discuss.

This thesis will conduct a thorough research， which starts with the definition of those words and phrases， then continues to dig into the translation methods.

2.Economic words and phrases with Chinese characterist-

ics

To define economic words and phrases with Chinese characteristics， we must know about Chinese characteristics in economy. China has its long and splendid civilization. The first paper money in the world――jiaozi（交子）was invented 600 to 700 years earlier than western paper money. The traditional Chinese culture presents many precious ideas and qualities.

In modern times， with intensifying reform and opening up to outside world， Chinese has also created neologisms tinged with Chinese characteristics. 100 years history with sorrow tells us that only socialist can save us， and due to every people’s efforts in practice， we found a road of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

In a word， economic words and phrases with Chinese characteristics can reflect Chinese culture， radiate Chinese flavor， exhibit Chinese connotations， and most importantly explain the great changes of China’s economy.

3. Methods of translation of economic words and phrases with Chinese characteristics

3.1 Transliteration

Transliteration is a method that specifically describes the sounds of one language to the best matching script of another language. Now， “pinyin” becomes the way of introducing words and phrases with Chinese characteristics into English spelling system as the official standard， and widely used by international communities.
