A man found a cocoon1 of and emperor moth2. He took it home so that he could watch the moth come out of the cocoon.
On that day a small opening appeared, he sat and watched the moth for several hours as the moth struggled to force the body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no farther. It just seemed to be stuck.
Then the man, in his kindness, decided to help the moth, so he took a pair of scissors3 and snipped4 of the remaining bit of the cocoon. The moth then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled5 wings.
The man continued to watch the moth because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened!
In fact, the little moth spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly.
What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the moth to get through the tiny opening was the way of forcing fluid from the body of the moth into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.
Freedom and flight would only come after the struggle. By depriving the moth of a struggle, lie deprived the moth of health.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life.
If we were to go through our life without any obstacles, we would be crippled6. We would not be as strong as what we could have been.
Give every opportunity a chance.
有一个人发现了一只帝蛾的茧,他把它带回家,这样他就可以观察飞蛾破茧而出的过程了。
一天,茧上出现了一个小裂纹,他坐在那儿观察了几个小时,看着飞蛾努力地想将自己的身体从那个小洞里挤出来。不久以后,飞蛾看起来不会再有任何进展,他好像已经尽了全力,无法再前进了,似乎被卡住了。
那个人出于好心,决定帮帮那只飞蛾。他拿来一把剪刀,把茧剪开了。飞蛾毫不费力地就出来了。但是它出来时身体肿胀,翅膀又小又破。
那个人继续观察那只飞蛾,因为他期待着某个时刻飞蛾翅膀会变大,身体会变小,这样翅膀就可以支撑身体飞起来。但是这种事情一直没有发生!
事实上,那只小飞蛾整个余生都拖着肿胀的身体和褶皱的翅膀来回地爬,它根本就飞不起来。
那个好心但匆忙的人所不知道的是,茧的束缚以及飞蛾冲破茧上小裂口所付出的努力可以将它身体中的体液挤压到翅膀里去,这样一旦它破茧而出获得自由,它就可以飞起来了。
自由和飞翔只能靠努力奋斗才能获得,剥夺飞蛾奋斗的权力,也就夺走了飞蛾的健康。
有时,在生活中我们所需要的正是奋斗。
如果我们真的不经历任何阻碍地生活的话,我们的人生将会是不健全的,我们就不会真正强大起来。
任何一个机会都应该试一试。
