The “Classified Chinese-Foreign Language Dictionary in 18 Minority Languages” Federated Media Publishing co-published by The Commercial Press and Chinese Radio International （CRI） was published in the 6th day in Beijing. Most of 18 dictionaries in 18 languages are the first Chinese-foreign language classified dictionary in the country of this foreign language， making up the blank of its domestic publishing.
The “Classified Chinese-Foreign Language Dictionary in 18 Minority Languages” Federated Media Project is highly praised by the participants. Besides， this project introduces the concept of federated media publishing， realizing synchronous publishing， that is to say， promoting digital products in the form of iOS APP and e-book while promoting paper dictionary. The e-book includes two data formats including Epub and Mobi， in which the e-book in Epub form can be displayed perfectly in iBooks reading tool； and that in Mobi forms can run smoothly on any terminal supporting Kindle Reader （including the tablet and smart phone supporting IOS， Andriod， Window XP or Window 7 and other systems）.
The “Classified Chinese-Foreign Language Dictionary in 18 Minority Languages” series is a national publishing fund project， including Albanian， Bulgarian， Polish， Persian， Filipino， Hausa， Croatian， Romanian， Burmese， Nepali， Sinhala， Thai， Tamil， Urdu， Hungarian， Italian， Hindi， Indonesian. The dictionary is of more than 32， 000 Chinese entries with uniform arranging architecture， but there are slight plus or minus in each language. Five themes including daily life， social life， public affairs， economic activities and social and natural science are involved in the dictionary. With the vocabularies arranged by category， the dictionary takes daily life as the clue and a large number of new words as the characteristics in terms of content. The Chinese entries added with Pinyin are convenient for the use of foreigners and the dictionary is attached with phonetic sequence index of Chinese entries at the end for the convenience to search.
This dictionary differs greatly from the traditional classified dictionary in terms of content arrangement. The traditional classified dictionary puts the politics， military， laws， diplomacy， economy， industry and agriculture first， followed by daily life， but this classified dictionary highlights the practicability with daily life as the main line， for example， Part One in the opening is the daily life， including “housing leasing， home furnishing， catering， shopping， leisure tourism， hairdressing and beauty， postal communication， savings and financial management， transportation， medicine and health and common sense”， in which the vocabularies concerning catering and medicine are the richest. In terms of content， with a large number of new things and new vocabularies as the characteristics， from the elementary to the profound and from the daily to the professional， this dictionary fully reflects the characteristics of the times in which the concepts and vocabularies change rapidly. For example， the social security part includes “pension， unemployment， medical treatment， labor protection， welfare institution， disasters and salvation” and the chapters for “online shopping， environmental protection， convention and exhibition affairs and logistics etc.” are set up specially， which are the items not collected in the traditional classified dictionary. This series of dictionary also collects the new words with new meanings that are frequently used in daily life， such as “high-speed rail， housing provident fund loans， acting cute， flash marriage， fans， paid holidays， OEM， logistics， BRICS， cheap copy， inhalable particles， haze， 3G mobile phone， roaming， bluetooth， quark， B2B， blog， micro-blog， hourly worker， maternity matron， actuary， new rural endowment insurance， land transfer， petition， safeguard stability， low-rent housing， nail household， demolition， financial account”.
