Passage 1
It was last summer vacation. In order to learn from the society，we organized a volunteer group with the purpose of helping the old in our hometown.
On the first day，we gathered at the school gate after breakfast. When all the group members were there，we set out to the old-age homes. After 30 minutes’ walk，we got there and were warmly welcomed. After showing us around their village，they began to chat with us.
After a while，we offered to clean their rooms. Some wiped the windows，some swept the floor，others washed their sheets and still others watered the flowers. All their rooms became clean soon.
When we left，it was about 11：00. Though a little tired，we were very glad，because we found that we were helpful to our society. Therefore，we keep on doing volunteering there every two weeks from then on. And I also hope more and more students will join us as volunteers to care for the old. （刘莉）
Passage 2
I have many experiences of working as a volunteer，but what I will remember for ever is that I volunteered to clean snow away on the road last winter.
As it was Sunday，I rose out of my warm quilt late. Looking out，I saw everything dressed in white.
An idea occurred to me that the road must be icy and slippery，so it would be very difficult for people to walk or drive. Therefore，I phoned my friends at once and asked them to clean the snow away on the road with me. Soon we gathered at the gate of our community. Some first shoveled the snow away with spades，some then swept the road with brooms and others washed it with water. Later on， many other people came to join us，too.
After about two or three hours’hard work，we were wet with sweat in and out，but seeing the roads in our community clean again and thinking it would be safe for the cars and people to move，we all felt very happy.
Indeed，I have learnt much in the volunteering activity and I will never forget it.（刘思蔚）
Passage 3
During the summer holiday of 2012，I thought I should do something meaningful instead of staying at home and watching TV. So I took part in a public service group which named Forever Happiness and worked as a volunteer.
Forever Happiness is made up of many teenagers who do some voluntary labor including doing something about public health，visisting the old and so on.
Everyday I went to work early in the morning and got home late in the evening. Sometimes，we went to the nursing home. I sat down around the grandparents. I told jokes，sang songs and danced. I also washed their clothes. When I saw their smile，I felt happy. This work was hard，boring and seemed endless，which made me so tired that I almost quit halfway. After all，I stuck to it with determination.
From my point of view，spiritual civilization is as important as material civilization. If everyone does a little for others and the society，our world will be a much better one. （万新）
