李加林的“世界第一”

应美国总统布什的盛情邀请,中国国家主席于今年4月春光明媚的时节访问美国。双方会见时,主席向布什总统赠送了有中国特色的纪念品《孙子兵法》。

这部《孙子兵法》不是一般图书,它是蕴含着极高技术含量的真丝织锦图书,其中文版是真丝织绵的,英文版是印在丝绸上的。

这项高技术的发明者是浙江理工大学的李加林教授,李加林用这项发明创造出下述世界第一:

1998年8月,世界上第一幅丝织长卷《清明上河图》面世;

2001年6月,世界上第一幅仿真彩色织锦《富春山居图》面世;

2005年1月,世界上第一部真丝织锦图书《孙子兵法》面世。

这三个“世界第一”都是织锦艺术,这些艺术瑰宝来自他的一项科技成果:“高密度全显像数码仿真彩色丝织技术”。2004年2月20日,国家科学技术奖励大会在北京人民大会堂召开,国务院总理为李加林的这项科技成果颁奖。

担当中华织锦传人

1979年,喜欢绘画的李加林考进浙江丝绸工学院(现浙江理工大学),入读纺织品设计专业。大学毕业后李加林去了丝织试样厂,三年时间他熟悉了丝织品的生产环节,涉猎了世界各国有关纺织的资料,惊叹18世纪人类就掌握了数万种织物技巧。1986年母校组建服装系,在丝绸界已小有名气的李加林被调到丝绸工学院任教,他暗暗下定决心要让中华织锦重放异彩。

1997年,李加林立项开始了仿真彩色丝织技术的研究。为了调配一组颜色,他常常要苦思冥想几个月的时间;为了寻找一种好的设计,他花去无数个日日夜夜在电脑上一次次录入、修改;他还每年赴意大利科莫、法国巴黎等世界顶尖丝织制造技术基地,去那里和设计大师们探讨……

世界上所有的教科书上都认为丝织设计的色彩与组织必须对应,李加林却没有囿于传统。那天,他在新加坡某公司参观,一张设计理念奇异的装饰结构图敲开了他的灵感之门,瞬间灵感喷薄而出,一下子跳出了原有的设计理念。此后,他创造性地提出了“仿真彩色丝织技术理论”。当地媒体以“浙江传统织造工艺获重大突破全显像技术使丝织品身价倍增”为题作了报道,称李加林的新设计理念使丝织品“画面似油画一般,效果让欧美消费者倾心不已。”

这项仿真彩色丝织技术彻底改变了世界各国沿用了100多年的丝织设计表现方式,它以丰富的色彩、精细的质地,把工笔画的细腻精致、油画的浓彩重墨、水粉画的明媚鲜艳、国画书法的笔墨神韵都表现得淋漓尽致,出神入化,李加林因此被称作“中华织锦传人”。

创造“世界第一”

科技与艺术对话、交织,而后才有创造。李加林首选被誉为中国古代现实主义绘画杰作的《清明上河图》来实践丝织新工艺。北宋人张择端万万没有想到,他的精心之作在千年之后会被年轻的科学家李加林用经线和纬线交织出来,逼真地再现北宋京城汴梁以及汴河两岸的繁华景象和自然风光。这幅长12.8米、宽0.25米、提花经纬交织点28800万个的织锦《清明上河图》,画上500多个人物个个栩栩如生,让人浮想联翩。

全国人大常委会副委员长费孝通为丝织《清明上河图》题词:“中华瑰宝,传世之作”。1999年7月5日李加林到北京参加了“真丝织锦《清明上河图》首发暨捐赠仪式”,据说为一件作品在人民大会堂开会在纺织部史无前例。

收藏《清明上河图》真本的中国故宫博物院收藏了真丝织锦《清明上河图》,中国历史博物馆、国家图书馆、中国丝绸博物馆等也纷纷将此作为藏品;织锦《清明上河图》又漂洋过海,新加坡中国商会召开董事会,祝贺织锦《清明上河图》在新加坡发行。

这卷《清明上河图》以其织造细密、卷长恢宏、纹版浩瀚,创下了世界纺织工艺史上多项第一,当仁不让地载入了吉尼斯纪录。

在完成《清明上河图》后,李加林又想用高科技让分藏在海峡两岸的《富春山居图》“合二为一”,以遂中华儿女早日统一祖国之愿景。

经过李加林的艰苦努力,2001年7月在北京展览馆举办的“国企改革与技术创新成果展”上,李加林采用彩色仿真丝织技术复制的真丝织锦《富春山居图》被展出,顿时成为观众与媒体的关注热点,时任国务院总理朱基、副总理也到展馆观赏。

2005年初,李加林又将《孙子兵法》穿上了“锦衣”:他用15.5万根桑蚕丝,经过2亿多次经纬交织,将中国具有3000多年历史的中华织锦和历史同样悠久的中国 “兵学圣典”《孙子兵法》交织在一起,创造了世界第一部真丝织锦图书。

因为有了科技与艺术的交织,终于有了三个真丝织锦艺术的“世界第一”。

交织教学科研经营

李加林既是杭州中纺科技发展有限公司总经理,又是浙江理工大学艺术与设计学院常务副院长、数码纺织研发中心主任。

李加林的名片上既有“教授、硕士生导师、专业委员会委员”的职务、职称,也有“总经理”的头衔。这些不同领域的头衔反映出他人生的多彩。

李加林觉得回到大学教书,是为了让中国的丝织技术有传承,有创新;而潜心科研,是为了让中华织锦重放异彩,至于创办公司涉足经营,那是顺应时代潮流,对知识经济的身体力行。

2000年4月,杭州市科委高科技风险投资100万元,帮助李加林创办了杭州中纺技术开发有限公司,生产“中纺锦绣”织锦,于是他开始了和大学教师生活相距甚远的另一种人生。

作为一位高校教师,他以为“启发慧眼胜于培养巧手”。在他的指导下,2004年浙江理工大学的学生第一次在“挑战杯”全国大学生科技创业竞赛中获银奖,李加林将此看作“和学生分享成功快乐”;2005年7月,李加林签下了由他领衔的国家高技术研究发展计划“纺织品电子提花关键技术及样机的设计制造”的合同书,他会同国内有关纺织装备企业力求开发出我国拥有自主知识产权的电子提花机;同年10月29日,李加林获中国发明协会首届“发明创业奖”。

李加林实验室里有一块名牌上写着“超大纹针电子提花机实验室”,那里面有迄今为止世界上最大的一架2.4万针的电子提花机,用它织出来的真丝织锦艺术品,可以挂在人民大会堂的各个厅里作壁画。

科技与艺术交织出来的织锦艺术品一向是对外交流极好的国家礼品,这些礼品饱含着中国人民的深厚情谊,被国家领导人分别赠给了俄罗斯普京总统、美国前总统卡特、德国前总理施罗德、泰国的诗琳通公主以及社会活动家陈香梅女士等等。

The Master's World-Class Technology

At the invitation of the US President George Bush, Chinese President Hu Jintao paid a state visit to America in April this year. When the two met, President Hu presented President Bush a very distinctive Chinese gift book: The Art of War.

This is by no means an ordinary bilingual book. It is a high-tech book of brocade, with the Chinese text embroidered with silk threads and the English text printed on silk.

The technology was invented by Li Jialin, a professor with Zhejiang Sci-Tech University. Li has used this technology to make three world's very firsts: he made the world's first long silk scroll of the painting The Festival of Pure Brightness on the River in August 1998, the world's first color brocade embroidery A Mountain Hut on the Fuchun River in June, 2001, and the world's first brocade book Sun Zi's The Art of War in January, 2005.

The three brocade masterpieces have been produced with the technology called High Density Full-Display Digital Simulation Color Silk Technology. On February 20, 2004, Li Jialin was awarded with a National Scientific and Technological Achievement Prize, issued by Premier Wen Jiabao at the National Science and Technology Awarding Congress held in Beijing.

Li entered Zhejiang Silk Engineering University (the predecessor of today's Zhejiang Sci-Tech University) and majored in textile design in 1979. The three years spent in a silk sample factory after graduation enabled him to familiarize with silk textile production processes, opened his eyes to the radiance of the textile materials from all over the world. His Alma Mater set up a clothing department in 1986. Li, who had enjoyed a modest reputation in the silk industry, was invited to teach at the new department. Li was determined to bring Chinese brocade technology to splendor and glory again.

In 1997, Li initiated the project to study a simulation color silk technology. He worked hard at everything from colors and designs. He visited world's best silk production bases in Italy and France and exchanged ideas with masters there.

All the textbooks in the world used to say that color and silk material must correspond to each other. But Li got an inspiration to break away from the tradition when visiting a company in Singapore. A decoration design opened his eyes. Creatively he came up with his theory of simulation technology. Li Jialin's new technology has revolutionized the established way silk embroidery was designed and made in the past 100 years. With the technology, Li is able to reproduce rich colors and refined brushstrokes of various arts such as Chinese traditional painting and calligraphy, watercolor, and oil on fine silk materials.

Li tried out his original idea on the classic Chinese painting The Festival of Pure Brightness on the River. The brocade was a huge success. On July 5th, 1999, a ceremony was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The industrial insiders comment that such signal breakthrough for a silk product had been unheard of before. After the Palace Museum in Beijing, which has the original painting, collected the brocade version, other two national museums and the national library included a piece of this silk-made masterpiece into their respective treasured collections. After the first success, Li made A Mountain Hut on the Fuchun River in June, 2001, and The Art of War in January, 2005.

Today, Li Jialin Laboratory has the world's largest electronic jacquard machine. Many of its products have been presented as state gifts to foreign state leaders and celebrities. Li now is the executive vice dean of the Art and Design College under the Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, director of the Digital Textile Development Center, and CEO of Hangzhou Zhongfang Corporation of Textile Scientific and Technological Development.
