To Love and Be Lovde is everything

Abstract: This article is mainly talking about what I get from a wonderful novel, that is to love and be loved is everything.

Katherine Anne Porter is a famous contemporary short-novel writer who named ''a granddaughter of the failed war'' by herself. When she was born, her family has been very poor, she lost her mother at age of two, so she can deeply understand what the poor think and feel. Now today I read one of her short novels——Rope. I thought a lot after reading it.

No matter you''re rich or poor, you have to face various things, have different feelings everyday. Sometimes the negative emotions will make you crazy. But if you stand in the different shoes and think in the different way, you may find everything is changing.

Just as what I read in this novel. At first, the wife was waiting for her husband, to have dinner together. Once she saw him "she came out to meet him, wiping her hands on her green smock..." From the chain of actions, we know they love each other, though they lived in the country, they are not rich, they are still happy. They are often playful, the man said "the woman looked like a born country woman, and she assured him he looked like a rural character in a play." The poor''s love was pretty pure.

But the thoughtless husband bought a twenty-four-yard coil rope rather than the necessary and wanted things. A matter of course, all the good mood of the wife had gone, she busted into anger, and she wanted to know "what might a rope come in handy for· She asked the man if they were going to run a laundry. Otherwise they have had a fifty-foot line; it was so funny to buy more rope." All the conflicts happened around the rope.

Then the husband went back to the village to buy the coffee, to change the rope. On the way of the village, he thought a lot about the woman, long times ago, the woman said "those two weeks alone in the country were the happiest she had known for four years. And how long had they been married when she said that." However, today, just because of a small piece of rope, she changed. "A four-mile walk for two pounds of coffee was ridiculous, but he was perfectly willing to do it. The habit was making a wreck of her, but if she wanted to wreck herself there was nothing he could do about it. If he thought it was coffee that was making a wreck of her. He must have an easy conscience" But on the contrary, he was a little upset, cause "A piece of rope. Imagine anybody caring more about a piece of rope than about a man''s feelings. What earthly right had she to say a word about it·" He complained, considered, walked.
