让步状语从句的基本意思是“虽然/尽管……”、“即使……”、“即便……”、“不论是否……”、“不管……还是……”、“不管……”等。引导让步状语从句的连词有：although、though、as、while、even if、even though、whether…or…、whether…or not、wh－＋ever 等。
一、 表示“虽然/尽管…”之意的连词引导的让步状语从句
这一类的连词主要有though、although、as、while。下边通过表格对这些连词的用法加以对比。
需要说明的是：as/though引导倒装的让步状语从句时，可以根据不同的情况将该句中的表语（名词或者形容词）、状语或者谓语中的行为动词提到句首，作表语的单数的可数名词之前的不定冠词需要省略。
（1）They are generous though they are poor.＝Though they are poor, they are generous.
尽管他们穷，他们却很慷慨。
（2）Although he is from the USA, he can speak fluent Mandarin.
尽管他是美国人，他却能说一口流利的普通话。
（3）While I understand your viewpoint, I don’t agree with you.
尽管我明白你的观点，我不同意你的看法。
（4）Young as/though he is, he behaves like a gentleman.＝Though he is young, he behaves like a gentleman.
虽然他年龄比较小，他的举止像个绅士。
（5）Child as/though he is, he has been to many countries.＝Though he is a child, he has been to many countries.
尽管他还是个小孩子，他已经去过很多国家了。
（6）Hard as/though she works, she makes little progress.＝Though she works hard, she makes little progress.
尽管她学习很努力，她的进步还是不大。
（7）Object as you may, I will lend him a hand.＝Though you may object, I will lend him a hand.

二、even if/even though引导的让步状语从句
这两个短语表示的语气比while、though/as、although的语气更为强烈，常常翻译为“即便……，即使……，再退一步说”。Even though更强调“既成事实”的让步，even if则强调对“假设”的让步。它们可以置于句首，也可以置于句中。
（1）Even if/even though she was wrong, she insisted on her opinion.＝She insisted on her opinion even if/even though she was wrong.
即使她错了，她依然坚持自己的观点。
（2）We’ll make a trip even if/even though the weather is bad.＝Even if/Even though the weather is bad, we will make a trip.
即使天气不好，我们也要作一次旅行。
三、whether…or… / whether…or not引导的让步状语从句
它们的意思是“不管……还是……”，“不论……是否……”该复合连词引导的让步状语从句表示正反两个方面的可能性都不会影响主句的意向或者结果。
（1）You will attend the opening ceremony whether you are free or not.
不管你忙不忙，你都得参加这个开幕式。
（2）I shall go, whether you come with me or stay at home.
不论你跟我去还是待在家里，我都要去。
（3）I will go to Lisa’s birthday party whether you agree or not.
不管你同意与否，我都要去参加丽莎的生日宴会。
四、wh－ever类词引导的让步状语从句
这一类的词语常见的有：whatever、whichever、whoever、whomever、whenever、wherever、however。可以翻译为“no matter wh－词，……无论……”。
（1）Whatever（No matter what）happens, you should keep calm.
无论发生了什么事情，你都要保持冷静。
（2）Whichever（No matter which）of them you choose, the quality is the same.
不管你选择哪一个，质量都是一样的。
（3）Whoever（No matter who）breaks the law, he or she will be punished.
不管是谁触犯法律，他（她）都会受到惩罚的。
（4）Whomever（No matter whom）of us you turn to for help, he or she will give you a hand.
无论你向我们之中的谁求助，他（她）都会帮你一把的。
（5）Whenever（No matter when）I’m in trouble, it is Ivy who cheers me up.
无论什么时候我遇到困难，总是Ivy鼓舞我。
（6）Wherever little Jimmy goes, his doggy follows him.
不管小吉米走到哪儿，他的小狗狗总是跟着他。
（7）However late he comes home, his wife will wait for him to have dinner.
