1. no作为形容词，可出现在单、复数名词和不可数名词之前，意思上相当于not a或者not any。 有时no也可以表示强烈的否定意义，即“的的确确不是”，“根本不是”。例如：
No cigarette is completely harmless. 香烟都是有害的。
I’ve got no Thursday free this term. 我这学期哪个星期四都没有空。
She had no idea what I meant. 她不理解我的意思。
Sorry――there’s no time to talk to you. 对不起――没有时间跟你交谈了。
So far no money has been spent on the repairs. 到现在为止，还没有花钱修缮过。
No person of that name lives here. 这里根本没有住过叫那个名字的人。
No teacher and no student has come yet. 不管教师，还是学生，一个都没有来。
No cookies are left. 一块饼干也没剩下。
He is no fool. 他很精明。
He is no child. 他绝不是个孩子。
He was no mama’s boy，but already a veteran of the Red Army. 他早已不是妈妈身边的宝贝儿子，而是一名久经沙场的红军战士。
She was no (sort of) mathematician. 她算不上是个数学家。
This is no place for a child. 这里决不是小孩子该去的地方。
2. no用在形容词前面表示与该词相反的意思。例如：
It is no easy task. 这可不是一件容易的事。
This is no new policy. 这不是什么新的政策。
He often felt sorry for himself，and I was no different. 他常常感到灰溜溜的，我也如此。
This is no small matter. 这可不是小事。
3. no可用在形容词或副词比较级前面表示not at all的意思。例如：
His case is no better than yours. 他的情况一点也不比你的好。
Are you really fifty? You look no older than forty. 你真地五十岁了?看上去你还不到四十岁。
4. no用在连续否定中，表示一层强似一层的否定意味。例如：
One man can’t lift it，no，not even half a dozen. 这东西，一个人是拿不动的，根本不行，六个人也拿不动。
None of her daughters was clever，no，not a one. 她的几个女儿都不聪明，的的确确，没有一个聪明的。
5. “no + v⁃ing”结构表示禁令、警告或不允许干某事。这种结构可单独使用，也可用在there is后面。例如：
NO SMOKING 请勿吸烟
NO PARKING 禁止停车
Sorry――there’s no smoking in the waiting⁃room. 对不起――候车室里不允许抽烟。
Once she began talking，there was no stopping him. 他话匣子一打开就休想让他住口。
There’s no saying what he’ll be doing next. 他接下去将要做什么很难断言。
6. no多用于口语中，表示几乎没有(= hardly any)。 例如：
It’s no distance from the house to the school. 从家里到学校没有多远。
We finished the work in no time. 我们不一会儿就把工作做完了。
