On the three-year anniversary of 12th May Wenchuan Earth quake coming, Central Spirit Civilization Office proposed a convening of symposium of National Heroic Juvenile of Earthquake Relief on the 7th May, in Beichuan county, Mianyang city. Central Civilization Office, Basic Education Department of Ministry of Education, Juvenile Department of Central committee of Communist Young League, Children’s Department of All-China Women’s Federation and leaders from Publicity Departments or Civilization Offices over 10 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions and Heroic Youngsters and Virtue of youth,170 people participated in this meeting. All the attentions have been attracted by a book which is beautifully printed and artistically bound -《We Are Growing Up – Memory of Heroic Juvenile of Earthquake Relief》.
With the cartoon expression that teenagers are delighted to see, this book represents their touching and deserving deeds of heroic juvenile of earthquake relief in 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008. With further reading the book, I was increasingly feeling the familiar scene of cartoons and it came to my mind that: I have seen some of these cartoons temporarily named 《Heroic Juveniles》 that Shui Qingjing, a practice writer on secondment from Writers Association showed me when I held the position of the deputy director of literature and art in publicity department on July, 2008. On that day, there was a group of "old Chengdu citizen" who came from Canada catched most of eyes. They described their own family stories with Chengdu to Chengdu people, they showed 100 years history of old Chengdu through more than 500 old photos, it has recorded 100 years history of West China Union Medical College Hospital, which is still serving for Chengdu people today.
100 years ago, a group of Canadians crossed the ocean, deep into the southwest of China, then started their education and medical career. They established West China Union University has become the origin place of Chinese modern stomatology--West China Union Medical College Hospital. They did a huge contribution to the culture change and pushed the progress of modern civilization.
