The English role in world development

【Abstract】As one of the most widely used languages in the world， English has been playing an important role in promoting the international trade and the global economic development. In addition， English also has a strong influence on the development of the global culture. Therefore， we should attach great importance to English.

1. The role English plays in world economic development

At present， China's economic strength is remarkable and the living standards of our people continue to increase， gradually among the highest in the world. The importance of English is largely reflected in its economic performance in the international trade. English plays a role of a bridge in the international trade environment， by which the two sides can not only promote a smooth transaction but also it acts as an important proof of today’s economic construction. A good grasp of English communication skills can allow a more effective access to the international information and the corresponding technology. In order to create more economic benefits， we should enhance our communicative competence in English， and at the same time， we can learn some of the positive economic development of foreign advanced technology or to complement the strength of China's economic development. In addition， viewing from the range of the application of English， it is the most widely used language and has made outstanding contributions in the political， economic， cultural， social and other fields， especially in the economic field. Besides， from the analysis of the essential attribute of English， we will find： as an economic intermediary between a bridge and special wishes of both sides， English can play an effective role of communication， regulation， negotiation and cooperation， etc. for example： the Fourth Science and Technology Fair in China which was held in 2006 fully demonstrates the role of English in the world economic development. According to a survey， more than 100 countries and regions participated in the fair. The number of the reception of foreign friends adds up to 2000 people， and the total turnover is more than 160 projects， thus promoting the country's economy and maximizing the benefits of the acquisition.

2. The role of English in the world's cultural development

In addition to the strong influence on the development of the world economy， English plays an important influence on the development of world culture as well. With the deepening of globalization， global culture penetration is more and more obvious， especially with the efforts of European and American countries. In recent years， Sino-US relations continue to progress， leading to the strengthening of mutual influence of two cultures. More and more Chinese films made by China penetrate deep into American culture system. Besides， American liberal education model gradually impact the ideas of the Chinese people. In addition， The role of English in the world's cultural development is not only reflected in the cultural penetration of each other， but also reflected in the cultural context of human behavior. Such as： In the modern fashion design， clothing design in European countries began to adopt the Chinese clothing design elements （cheongsam， pictographic patterns， etc.）， while Chinese clothing design also try to integrate the European and American elements （letters， English pattern， etc.）， so that more and more colorful clothing appear， but also the fact that the cultures have no borders is highlighted. On the other hand， we currently find that many cities have set up a number of English classes， which reflects that English is playing a big role in the development of world culture. In addition， economic and cultural role of English in the world economic development in the exchange， the same can be counterproductive in the cultural development， promoted by the formation of a good system.

Conclusion

All in all， in the world economy， politics， social development or cultural development， English has generated immeasurable value and the value generated mostly is beneficial， endless and can promote world harmony among people around the world. It can also strengthen exchanges and promote China's comprehensive strength of a comprehensive upgrade. In addition， from the analysis of the role of English in the world development， two dialectical approach to the resolution need to be taken into consideration in order to understand and grasp the true meaning of its role.
