The Mouse,the Bird and the Sausage

(老鼠､小鸟和香肠)

1. A mouse, a bird and a sausage lived in a little house beside a forest. They lived a happy life together. 老鼠､小鸟和香肠住在森林旁边的一座小房子里,他们一起生活得非常快活｡

2. The Bird flew high, so he went to the forest for wood. The Mouse ran fast, so he brought water from the river. The Sausage cooked food at home, of course. 小鸟飞得高,所以他去树林衔柴火｡老鼠跑得快,所以他去河里提水｡香肠当然是在家里做饭｡

3. One day, when the Bird was bringing wood back, he met the Magpie. “Aren’t you a servant, Mr Bird? Why do you bring wood alone every day?” 一天,小鸟往家里衔柴火时,碰到了喜鹊,“先生,您不会是奴仆吧,怎么天天是你一个人衔柴火?”

4. “No,” the Bird said, “the Mouse carried water, and the Sausage cooked food. We each do our own work.” “不是这样的｡”小鸟说:“老鼠提水,香肠做饭,我们各有分工｡”

5. “Theirs are not work!” the long-tongued Magpie wanted to stir up again. “How hard you fly back and forth to carry wood in the wind and rain!” “他们那算什么活!”多嘴的喜鹊又要拨弄是非,“你这样风里雨里,来来往往地飞多辛苦啊!”

6. Hearing what the Magpie said, the Bird felt he was wronged. When he came back he asked their work to be divided up again. 小鸟听了喜鹊的话,感到自己很委屈,回家后,他提出重新分工｡

7. They three agreed to divide up their work by lot. The result is like this: The Sausage’s job is to bring wood; the Mouse’s is to cook food; the Bird’s is to bring water. 大家同意用抽签的方式分工,抽签的结果是:香肠背柴､老鼠做饭,小鸟担水｡

8. The next day, when the Sausage carried wood, a big grey wolf smelled scent far off. As soon as the Sausage came, he ate him up. 第二天,香肠去担柴,一只大灰狼老远就闻到了香肠身上的香味｡香肠刚到跟前就被大灰狼吃掉了｡

9. The Mouse finished cooking the food. When he scooped food, he was careless enough to fall into the pot and was burned to death. 老鼠做好了饭｡当他去盛饭时,不小心掉到饭锅里被烫死了｡

10. At the moment, a bit of burning wood fell out of the fire, then the pile of wood caught fire. At last the house was on fire. 这时,一块烧着了的木柴从灶里掉了出来,点着了柴堆,烧着了房子｡

11. Seeing the house catching fire, the Bird hurried to shout for the Mouse and the Sausage to put out the fire. But no matter how hard the Bird called, they never came back. 小鸟一见房子着火了,忙喊老鼠和香肠来灭火,可是,不管怎么喊,他们也不会来了｡

12. The Bird hurried to bring water to fight the fire. Unluckily he fell into the well and was killed too. This story tells us that we should each do our own work, and then we shall all be happy. 小鸟只好自己去提水救火,结果掉到井里淹死了｡故事告诉我们,做好属于自己的那份工作,我们将是快活的｡
