3 The principals, methods, contents and measures of cultural education.

3.1The principles of cultural education.

Appropriate principle requires that we select the contents of teaching and the number is proper. It requires teachers prepare some cultural contents related to the language contents, function items and general topics in daily communication. These should be available at the basic stage.

3.2 The contents of cultural education.

As language knowledge students mastered is limited, they often have the topics about their daily lives. Teaching contents of cultural education should be mainly about daily phrases, including description, greeting, farewell, congratulation and taboo, reflecting two different ways of cultural thinking and expression.

In greeting, the East-West cultural differences are quite obvious. Chinese people used to meet each other with, "Are you going to buy things Eat How old is your daughter? Have you had lunch? How much can you get one month?" these seems for the foreigners to be involved in the issues of privacy, they generally are not willing to answer even resent.

In Chinese traditional culture, subtle and modest expressions of the language are very common. However, in contact with foreigners we should be careful not to use self-deprecated way to respond to other's praise. The receipt of gifts should be face-to-face open and expressed thanks. Received services and express your thanks much. It should be noted that in foreigners’ opinion, some issues are of a private matter, including individual’s age, weight, salaries, property, religion and so on. This is the taboo in language communication; we had better respect their habits and avoid asking these questions.

"Thank you," is used widely not only in Chinese, but also in English. It is used to express gratitude for many things, such as gifts, invitation, and help and so on. But there is difference in using it exactly. For gifts from others, Chinese people usually won’t accept them directly. While in English culture, people hold that it’s proper to open them and express their happiness.

Compliment language is widespread used in the United States on various occasions frequently and perform a variety of functions. It is also through praise and compliment to build and maintain social relations, but also used to replace the apology, greetings, thank sets, such as: That's a delicious dinner. Thanks for having us. They are also used to ease criticism of the idea.

3.3 Measures and methods of cultural education.

Language is the carrier of culture; cultural understanding is the premise of language learning. Therefore, foreign language teaching must follow the basic mode of language teaching. Communication and language application are the essence of language teaching. It’s necessary that modern teaching methods such as network, the foreign newspapers and magazines, projector, VCR, and other applications be used to create a language atmosphere. How will these tools be combined but not just be pulsed, how to choose cultural knowledge related to language materials, how to use these means to mobilize students to understand the cultural knowledge, which are what we want to work hard on.

4 Conclusion: The importance of cultural education in language teaching.

Cross-culture communication is the fundamental purpose of foreign language teaching. It’s the important task of china’s education at the turning of century to comprehensively improve the efficiency and quality of foreign language teaching and to improve their pragmatic ability to use foreign language. As teachers, we need a correct understanding of the important position that cross-culture communication is in the foreign language teaching.
