Lenovo’s G570 laptop has entry-level components such as Intel iCore i3 2.1 GHz processor, 3 GB RAM and Windows Home Basic. The exteriors too are no-frills. A glossy blend of black and maroon covers the top lid. Flip it open and you will see a brushed metal plate around the keyboard and trackpad. The 15.6-inch LED screen supports HD graphics. Though this one does not possess a discrete graphics card, Intel’s HD graphics does a good job for high resolution tasks. Lenovo has added good applications such as Veriface and Power DVD to begin with. These bring security as well ease of use to the laptop. We got spectacular scores from the G570. It squeezed out 5754 points on PC Mark Vantage test and 4047 on 3D Mark 06. HDMI, VGA, Ethernet and 3 USB ports run along the sides with a DVD writer. The full numeric keyboard is fairly large and comfortable to use. You won’t run out of space on this laptop. It has over 600 GB of hard drive space. This laptop is worth every penny spent.

Samsung is not simply a TV company. To show us its abilities, it has launched a laptop that has looks, brains and a tempting price tag. Coded RC510, this laptop has a welllit, 15.6-inch screen that supports HD graphics using NVIDIA’s 315M GPU. This laptop is great to look at with its metal-like plastics. It has a DVD writer plus HDMI, VGA, Ethernet and USB ports. It also comes with a full ergonomic keyboard. The firepower includes Intel Core i3 processor that clocks at 2.53 GHz, 500 GB hard for storage and a 3 GB RAM. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi aid con- nectivity. A 1.3 MP web cam can stream pictures in HD to the other side.
The RC510 scored 4921 PC Mark Vantage points and 3798 3D Mark 06 points. This indicates it can do it all—light gaming, office work and video and sound editing. The 6-cell battery lasts for over 4.5 hours on full charge. The RC510 sports a new functionality called fast start—it wakes the laptop from sleep mode to working mode in seconds.

From Canon’s Pixma series comes the MX366, an all-in-one aimed at small to medium businesses. Like others of its ilk, the MX366 can scan, print and copy with the added capability to sending faxes if attached to a live phone cord. This printer has a number of keys and a single LCD screen on its fairly large form factor. Most functions can be handled without a PC, but for some you will require a computer’s assistance.
The MX366 also comes with a Pictbridge USB port that lets it print photos with compatible cameras and phones. However, it does not have a card reader slot. It can print eight pages per minute in draft monochrome and about four pages in draft colour. Not too shabby for an office horse, this machine further impressed us with its super sharp prints under its best mode. The colours are natural and there is no bleeding. We really couldn’t find a flaw in the prints. Unlike some of its not so bright siblings last year, this printer is a refreshing change.

Keeping beloved gadgets free from dirt and dust is the secret to their longevity. But cleaning them with powerful gusts of air and makeshift scrapers like pins are not recommended methods. What is suggested is a mini vacuum cleaner. The one from Ultra is a compact cleaning device that can be used to keep mobiles, displays, keyboards, printers, etc free from grime. Easy to carry around, this mini vacuum cleaner has two arms on the top and on the left. The one of the top can be used for connecting the bent extractor tube along with the brush, whereas the dust collector bag is placed on the left outlet. Since it draws its energy from four AA batteries, it has limited suction power, but it easily sucks dust particles even as the brush attachment pries free stubborn gunk. While it managed to clean the screens and mobiles effectively, the results with the keyboard would leave mother screaming.
