按：今年8月31日是马来西亚独立48周年国庆日，与往年一样，马来西亚政府都会邀请世界各国官员，包括媒体代表团参加这一盛大庆典，以此见证马来西亚的重大成就。本刊有幸参加了这次活动，从本期起，我们将组织有关介绍文章，从旅游、文化、购物、城市风貌等方面全方位推介这个美丽的国家。此外，下一期开始还有本刊记者的深度体验文章，敬请关注。
“缤纷马来西亚”在1999年首次成功举行，今年已经是第七次举办了。这个一年一度的旅游盛会，吸引了来自世界各地的远朋近邻，透过这个万花筒，游客们可以从节奏欢快的音乐、活力十足的韵律和动作优雅的舞蹈中，体验马来西亚的多姿多采。
长达一个月的“2005缤纷马来西亚”于7月2日在吉隆坡的独立体育场举行开幕庆典，马来西亚13个州和一个联邦辖区的民间歌舞贯穿其中，同时今年的活动更具国际性，来自亚洲多个国家，包括中国、韩国、泰国、印度尼西亚和菲律宾的表演团体，也带来了各自民族的舞蹈表演。
在开幕式庆典之后，马来西亚各个州推出了“缤纷马来西亚”的系列活动，游客们从中体验马来西亚这个多元种族国家的方方面面，包括热情好客的人民、独具风味的食物、各有特色的语言、源远流长的文化以及丰富多彩的艺术，充分表现了马来西亚多元文化绚丽夺目的光彩。
在马来西亚，每一个民族的人民，包括马来人、华人、印度人、嘉达山杜顺族人以及伊班族人，都有其独特的生活方式和文化传统。而把这些不同文化紧紧联系在一起的是相互之间的宽容、信任和对于彼此文化的尊重。正是这股力量，让多种族的马来西亚在差异中更加团结，在和平与和谐中繁荣稳定地发展。
马来西亚不仅在文化传统方面内涵丰富，其他方面也不能错过。在“缤纷马来西亚”活动期间，关于民族食物的活动当然不可缺少。由于各民族的饮食文化各不相同，游客在那里能品尝到不同种类、民族特色浓郁的美味佳肴。同时酒店和餐馆也推出了形形的本地和民族风味的菜色，酸甜苦辣色香味俱全。对于各地游客而言可是不小的味觉刺激和享受。
马来西亚的传统手工艺品是马来西亚的又一大特色，各式各样的编织品、匕首、木制品、雕塑、风筝、蜡染印花布、银器皿、铜器等让人眼花缭乱，而师傅们高超的手工技艺，为这些工艺品赋予了民族艺术的魅力，体现了民俗文化，游客们也为精彩的制作工艺赞叹不已。
作为世界上最美丽的热带国家，如画的风景为马来西亚增添了更多色彩。星罗棋布的海岛、绵延的海岸线、洁白的沙滩是潜水爱好者的最爱。海底世界的生活更是斑斓多彩，种类繁多的鱼、五颜六色的珊瑚和贝壳、叫得上名字或是叫不上名字的深海动植物，为这块热带乐土更添姿采。同时，凉爽的高地为冒险者提供了寻找大自然踪迹的绝佳机会，千年雨林覆盖着低洼地区，游人们可以穿梭在繁茂的树林中，一探奇妙的大自然。
华灯初上的马来西亚被霓虹灯点缀，更显欢乐气氛。繁荣的夜生活、灯火通明的娱乐场所、价格低廉的购物中心应有尽有，成为名副其实的不夜城。
马来西亚的多元文化和生活方式给人以无限的享受空间，而在“缤纷马来西亚”中得到了最好的体现。马来西亚以她独特的魅力，让游客们从心灵上和眼睛里体验了“亚洲魅力，尽在马来西亚！”
THE MANY COLOURS OF MALAYSIA
Malaysia comes alive with music， rhythm and dance in a kaleidoscope of colours during the Colours of Malaysia or Citrawarna Malaysia celebration．Visitors will be able to enjoy the diversity of Malaysia＇s multi－faceted customs， traditions and practices ranging from her people， food， language， culture to the arts．
Citrawarna Malaysia was inaugurated in 1999 and， now in its seventh year， has become a major annual tourism event bringing thousands of visitors to Malaysia from near and far．Special package tours are organized for groups from neighbouring countries such as Thailand， Singapore， Indonesia and Brunei during this period．
Each of Malaysia＇s distinctive communities － Malay， Chinese， Indian， Kadazandusun and Iban － has its own unique lifestyle and heritage such as traditions， architecture and language． Binding them all are the mutual feelings of tolerance， acceptance and appreciation of one another＇s cultures． These traits are intrinsic to the melting pot society of Malaysia for underneath it all lies the spirit of unity amid diversity as the nation thrives in peace and harmony．
THE LAUNCH
The month－long Citrawarna Malaysia 2005 commences on 2 July when the 14 Malaysian states and federal territories present a spectacular show filled with song， dance and music at the Merdeka Stadium in Kuala Lumpur． This year， five invited countries viz China， Korea， Thailand， Indonesia and Philippines will be sending cultural troupes to perform for the public as well．
Following this launch extravaganza， each state will put on their own Citrawarna Malaysia activity programme offering visitors an experience to remember until the festival ends on 31 July 2005．
MORE THAN SONG AND DANCE
Besides the display of culture， tradition and customs， there are other aspects of Malaysia that one should not miss out．The array of abundant and eclectic food is in itself a celebration． Each ethnic group has its own traditional cuisine and during Citrawarna Malaysia， all kinds of food can be enjoyed．
Many hotels and restaurants join in the festivities and serve a delicious spread of local and ethnic cuisine for all to savour．It is an interesting experience to titillate the palate with flavours ranging from spicy to sweet， sour and salty！
Traditional handicrafts are also exhibited for visitors to admire their intricate workmanship． They include colourful handmade textiles to daggers， woodwork， sculpture， kites， batik， silver， copper and brass wares．
Another Malaysian element that makes a stay here an unforgettable experience is the warmth and hospitality of the local folks．Malaysia is often known and highly appreciated as the ″Land of a Thousand Smiles″．
The colours of Malaysia include its scenic beauty as each and every destination in the country exudes its own hue and shade to captivate visitors．Many sun－kissed islands and palm－fringed coastlines have long， sandy white beaches and exquisite diving spots with an amazing underwater life filled with fish， coral， shells and other denizens of the deep sea． The cool highlands offer green adventure and nature trails， millennia－old rainforest， jungle－clad lowlands． The neon－lit cities and towns have a thriving nightlife， entertainment and world－class shopping malls．
