近日，有网友在其微博中称，“眼保健操残害中国青少年49年了，全世界仅中国做眼保健操，按摩毫无作用的穴位，49年来中国青少年近视率升至世界第二，达3.6亿人，做眼保健操无法改善视力，许多学生用脏手按摩导致红眼病、眼部感染等”。此言一出，立即引发热议。有些网友认为，一个眼保健操，罪名再大，也不过“保健效果不显著”而已，扯得上“残害”中国青少年吗？那么到底做眼保健操好不好呢？
Eyes can be well protected by doing eye exercises.
First， eye exercises can help in maintaining good eyesight by strengthening and improving the flexibility of the eye muscles. It is a combination of massage （按摩） and applying pressure to acupuncture points（穴位）.
Second， they also help in relaxing the eyes and relieving eyestrain. As students are using their eyes too much at school， they need to take frequent breaks and let their eyes relax during those pauses. Taking five minutes to close the eyes is useful， not to mention giving massage to the eye muscles.
Third， the increasing number of students who are short?sighted is caused by several factors， such as the widely use of computers， smart phones and televisions. Heavy burden at school should also be blamed.
In conclusion， doing eye exercises is good， but when students are surrounded by so many electronic screens， it cannot effectively stop students’ eyesight from decreasing.
Eye exercises have no scientific foundation and may even be harmful.
On the one hand， students always do it without washing hands in advance， so germs may easily get into their eyes. Every day， school children just put down their pens and perform a series of eye exercises. During this process diseases like trachoma（沙眼） can easily develop and spread among students.
On the other hand， the more crucial problem is that it’s difficult for students to find the acupuncture points to perform the eye exercises correctly and effectively. Carelessly pressing and rubbing the skin and muscle near eyes will be harmful and cause what is mentioned above， germs to get into the eyes.
In conclusion， five minutes of eye exercises should be canceled. Instead， students should be taught more ways of protecting eyes in everyday life.
