Early in the Paleolith era 30 thousand years ago, the so called ″Qilinshan man―the primogenitor of Zhuang nationality″ began their life and multiply in this area.It has been quite a long history of 2262 years that the ruler of Qin dynasty began to set the county-level organizational system in Laibin when he consolidated the south of the five ridges, and then the Guilin shire government was founded during the periods of Han, Three kingdom, and South―North dynasty. The rich mineral deposit

Up to now, 20-odd kinds of various mineral deposits have been discovered in this area.The export of barite ore of Xiangzhou County has steadily ranked in the first of Guangxi; The Heshan City has a huge coal deposit of 670 million ton and so has the title of ″the coal city of Guangxi″; while the resources for thermal-electric & hydroelectric power stations are plentiful too.Besides the Laibin power plant, the city also has Laibin thermal-electric power plant B, which is the first BOT project in Guamgxi; and the Heshan power plant, which is the biggest one of its kind in Guangxi.With a capacity of 600 thousand kW, the first generator unit of the extension project of Letan hydroelectric power station, Xinchen County will be put in use in the end of this year (2004); while the Qiaogong hydroelectric power station of Laibin and the Xialiujia hydroelectric power station of Jinxiu are both under the planned construction.After the all projects are completed, the gross capacity provided by thermal & hydraulic electric power stations will achieve to 4 million kW, and so will be one of the biggest energy bases of Guangxi and the file leader of the national ″transfer electricity from west to east″ program.

The primarily scaled industry

At present, there are over 600 industrial enterprises located in this area, and the industries of electricity, sugar making, and smelting have been the backbone.Industries of paper making, building material, pharmacy, mineral products, and the processing of agro-products & local products have been in a certain scale.A number of enterprises that possess resource superiorities and local characteristics are springing up one after another, while lots of knockout products with high market competition capability go upon the stage continuously.The August First Ferroalloy Plant is the present biggest ferromanganese production base in China, while the indium-smelting project of Laibin smelting works has achieved the annual output of indium that occupies the 1/4 portion of the total annual output of the world.Thirteen-large/middle scale sugar plants of the city have a daily gross pressing capacity of 50 thousand tons of sugar cane.The new programmed industry park zone, which was designed aiming to the target of ″higher, newer, and stronger″ and accordance with the principle of ″complete functions, advanced science & technology, and elegant environment″ that is required for the designing of a modern industry park zone has been launched in the near present.
